2) INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT / BACKGROUND INFORMATION

(i) Identification of Project and Project Proponent.

Name of the Project:

Brick Earth Quarry & Brick Kiln Project, Village Kendudhar, Tehsil Saraipali, , - (493558).

Project Proponent

Collector, Mahasamund granted Brick earth quarry for mining of brick earth used for the manufacture of Bricks by using Kiln to M/sLaxmi Bricks resident of District Saraipali, as per collector’s order.

As per Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006, as mended requires mining projects ( new projects, expansion or modernization of existing projects as also at the stage of renewal of mine lease) with lease area of 5 ha and above, irrespective of the mineral (major or minor ) to obtained prior environment clearance under the provisions thereof. Mining projects with lease area of 5 ha and above and less than 50 ha are categorized as category ‘B’. Pre Feasibility Report of Laxmi Brick Earth Quarry, Area- 4.882 Hect.Village- Kendudhar, Tahhil-Saraipali, District – Mahasamund (C.G.) Category ‘B’ projects are considered by the respective State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, notified by MoEF under the EIA Notification, 2006.

Supreme Court of in Special leave petition (C) dated 27th February 2012 directs that “ leases of minor mineral including their renewal for an area less than 25 ha be granted by the states/UTs only after getting environment clearance from the MoEF.

As per MoEF guidelines dated 24.6.2013 considering the guidelines in term of the provisions under '7.I Stage (1) Screening' of EIA Notification, 2006, the borrowing/excavation of 'brick earth' and 'ordinary earth' up to an area less than 5 ha, may be categorized under 'B2' Category.

Further Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forest issued guidelines dated 24 th Dec 2013 and amendments are made regarding categorization of ‘B’ category projects also referred the guidelines dated 24.06.2013 for mining of minor minerals of mining projects of 'brick earth'.

(ii) Brief Description of Nature of the Project.

The area is covered by soil with scanty vegetation mainly grass. The method of excavation of brick earth will be near surface opencast manual by local labors. The brick earth so excavated will be used for manufacture of bricks.

(iii) Need for the Project and its importance to the country and or region,

Soil bricks are used in all type of construction activities like commercial, industrial and public buildings as well as other physical infrastructure.

(iv) Demand Supply Gap

The growth in India's economy and pollution, coupled with urbanization, has resulted in an increasing demand for residential, commercial, industrial and public buildings as well as other physical infrastructure. For this, bricks play an important role and the demand for bricks is always there.

(v)Demand Supply Analysis

In order to have the great demand for building material, the supply is limited. To fulfill the demand of market the bricks will be supplied in the market.

(vi) Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) Due to the Project. Unskilled 18 labors will be required for excavation of brick earth, manufacturing of bricks, loading bricks on trucks etc.

3) PROJECT DESCRIPTION (i) Type of Project (including interlinked and interdependent project, if any)

This project is a small brick earth quarry project which is interlinked with brick kiln.

(ii) Location (map showing general location, specific location and project boundary & project site-specific layout) with coordinates.

The brick earth quarry is situated near village Kendudhar, in Tehsil Saraipali, District Mahasamund, of Chhattisgarh State. The area falls in survey of India Toposheet No.64K/15.

Location Map and Google Map showing coordinates of the lease area is attached with the project report.

(iii) Size or Magnitude of operation.

The mining lease area is 4.882 ha in which the working area is only 0.81 ha and the average production of brick is 2429325 Nos. per day. Hence the size or magnitude of operation is very small.

Drilling

Drilling is not required.

Blasting:

As the project is for brick earth quarry and brick kiln, therefore no blasting is required.

Type of explosives used / to be used.

Explosives are not required.

Storage of explosive (like capacity and type of explosive magazine)

As no blasting will be done hence magazine is not required in the mining area.

(vi) Raw Material/ Consumables Required along with estimated quantity, likely source, marketing area of final product, mode of transport of raw material and finished product.

Only earth (soil) and sand is required as raw material/ consumables. The bricks produced from the mine area will be transported through trucks, tractors etc.

(viii) Availability of water, its source, Energy/power requirement and source should be given.

As much as about 5 KLPD Water will be required for brick construction and about 1 KLPD water will be required for sprinkling of water on the haulage road as and when required for the suppression of dust generated due to transport vehicles and for plantation purpose. Energy/power is not required as the mining activities are carried out in day time only.

Quantity of wastes to be generated (liquid and solid) and scheme for their management/ disposal.

As the brick earth quarry project is interlinked with brick kiln, hence small amount of coal ash will be generated during brick firing process, which will be stored safely within lease boundary in a pit will be used for reclamation afterwards.

Selection of Dumping Site:

No sub grade material is generated hence no dumping site is required.
