Form guide • Gladbach have yet to concede in four UEFA outings against Cypriot opponents (W3 D1), and recorded their biggest European win against Cypriot guests, when they beat Enosis Pezoporikou Amol FC 10-0 in the second leg of a 1970/71 European Champion Clubs' Cup first round tie. The 'away' leg of that tie was staged in Germany too – in Augsburg, where Gladbach won 6-0. • In 42 encounters between the nations' clubs in UEFA competition, there has – as yet – been just one Cypriot win (APOEL FC beating Berliner FC Dynamo 2-1 in Nicosia in a 1980/81 European Cup first round match). The Bundesliga sides have edged 34 of those fixtures. • Gladbach are unbeaten in five European home contests (W3 D2) and drew both of their opening Group A games 1- 1. Trivia and links • Gladbach's Thorgan Hazard and Apollon's Cameroonian forward Fabrice were team-mates while on loan at SV Zulte Waregem last season. • Apollon's Fotis Papoulis scored the first goal of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League group stage, nine minutes into their 3-2 matchday one win against FC Zürich. • Having made their debut last season, Apollon are the first Cypriot side to have reached the UEFA Europa League group stage for a second time. The coaches • Swiss coach Lucien Favre is leading Mönchengladbach into a second UEFA Europa League group stage campaign, having steered them to the round of 32 in 2012/13. The former Switzerland midfielder won two national titles and a Swiss Cup in charge of FC Zürich, and coached Hertha BSC Berlin before taking over Mönchengladbach in 2011. • On 8 October, Apollon parted company with coach Christakis Christoforou, who had been in charge since March 2013. • Romanian coach Ioan Andone took charge of Apollon on 16 October, having previously coached in Cyprus when he led AC Omonia from 2005-07. Capped 55 times as a defender, Andone has worked as a coach in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in recent years. 3 VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach - Apollon Limassol FC Thursday 23 October 2014 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Borussia-Park, Monchengladbach Team facts VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach Formed: 1900 Nickname: Die Fohlen (The Foals) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup: (1977) • UEFA Cup: 2 (1973), 1975, 1979, (1980) • European/South American Cup: (1977) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 5 (1977) German Cup: 3 (1995) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 10-0: Mönchengladbach v Enosis Pezoporikou Amol FC 22/09/70, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-7: ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar v Mönchengladbach 20/09/73, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3 twice, most recently v CA Boca Juniors 01/08/78, European/South American Cup second leg • Heaviest away defeat 8-0: Rangers FC v Mönchengladbach 30/11/60, European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 7-0: Mönchengladbach v FK Sarajevo 28/08/14, play-off second leg • Biggest away win 1-5: FC Twente v Mönchengladbach 21/05/75, final second leg • Heaviest home defeat 2-4 twice, most recently v Fenerbahçe SK 05/10/12, group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Dundee United FC v Mönchengladbach 03/11/81, second round second leg Apollon Limassol FC Formed: 1954 Nickname: Thrylos (Legend) UEFA club competition honours 4 VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach - Apollon Limassol FC Thursday 23 October 2014 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Borussia-Park, Monchengladbach • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 3 (2006) Cypriot Cup: 7 (2013) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: group stage 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: third qualifying round 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA competition 2006/07: UEFA Champions League first qualifying round 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 4-0: Apollon v Vác FC 29/09/93, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 1-4 twice, most recently v FC Lokomotiv Moskva 28/08/14, UEFA Europa League play-off second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Apollon v Győri ETO FC 23/09/67, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 8-0: Djurgårdens IF v Apollon 29/06/96, UEFA Intertoto Cup group stage 8-0: FC Barcelona v Apollon 15/09/82, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 4-0: Apollon v Vác FC (see above) • Biggest away win 1-4 twice, most recently v FC Lokomotiv Moskva (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Apollon v AFC Ajax 27/09/01, first round second leg 0-3: Apollon v Real Zaragoza 14/09/89, first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 6-1: Bohemians 1905 v Apollon 19/09/84, first round first leg 5 VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach - Apollon Limassol FC Thursday 23 October 2014 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Borussia-Park, Monchengladbach Squad list VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
