Karla MacDonald presented outgoing Suncoast Chapter President Chip Richards, former Production Manager of WLRN-TV, with a commemorative EMMY® at the Board of Governors May meeting. Chip’s term as President of the Chapter has ended and newly elected President John Mays, Production Manager, WFOR/CBS4 will now be at the helm of the Suncoast Chapter. Barbara Alfonso, Director, TeleXitos, will serve the chapter as 1st Vice President and Alternate Trustee and Frances Hernandez, Manager, National Productions, WPBT Channel 2 will serve as 2nd Vice President and Trustee. Maria Cristina Barros will serve the chapter as a Trustee.

According to the Suncoast Chapter by-laws, members of the Board of Governors who faithfully serve two 2-year terms receive a gold plaque in appreciation. Frances Hernandez, newly elected 2nd Vice President completed her terms as a board member and received her plaque from Chip Richards. Natalia Crujeiras, Chief Content Officer for the Office of Cuba Broadcasting completed her terms as a board member and was also presented with a plaque. Natalia was not in attendance at the May meeting.

REGIONAL NEWS TIM BARBER LEAVING WFTV By Kevin Eck TVSPY

Tim Barber has left Orlando ABC affiliate WFTV.

He’s going to WJLA in Washington, D.C. where he’ll be a Monday through Friday nightside reporter.“I’m supposed to say how disappointed I am to be losing Tim, but I really am happy to see him get a chance to show Washington, D.C., what he can do,” news director Matt Parcell told the Orlando Sentinel. “Tim showed up from a small Texas market and had to figure out how to report at the level we require. He did it, and he did it very well. We’re Tim Barber glad he was on our team.”

Barber started at WFTV in 2011. He got his start at KAMC in Lubbock, Texas.

WFLA ADDS MIDDAY NEWSCAST

NBC affiliate WFLA Tampa is adding an 11 a.m. newscast starting Monday, June 13.

The one hour newscast will be anchored by Stacie Schaible and Gene Ramirez along with meteorologist Leigh Spann.

“The 11 a.m. time period gives News Channel 8 another exclusive opportunity to showcase our “8 On Your Side brand,” said Andy Alford, president and GM.

REGIONAL NEWS WTVT ADDS CONSUMER REPORTER By Kevin Eck TVSPY

Sorboni Banerjee is joining Tampa Fox-owned station WTVT as a consumer reporter.

“I can’t think of a more rewarding reporting role than helping viewers save time and money, stay safe, and keep up to date with technology and trends,” said Banerjee. “Social Media has made news a two-way street, and I can’t wait to reach out, and hear directly from the Tampa Bay community!” Sorboni Banerjee Banerjee last worked at WFXT in . She worked at WHDH before that. She’s also worked as a morning anchor at WLNE in Rhode Island and political correspondent at WHAG in Hagerstown, Md.
