Entitled ‘Bipolar and Art’, the show is a retrospective of former Quadra resident Laurie Bartlett’s creative work over the past 27 years. “The feedback has been incredible,” said gallery owner Richard Calver. “People respond almost immediately to the emotional impact of the pieces.” Indeed, the response has been so good that the show had almost entirely sold out when I dropped by the studio to meet the artist on August 23. Commissions from the non-profit exhibition will be donated to the Eureka Club in Courtenay, a mental health support group. For Laurie, who now lives in Courtenay, the reaction to her work has been very encouraging. This is her first major show and the first time she has shared many of these paintings with the public.
