Club Med unveils new experiences at La Pointe aux Canonniers

Henri Giscard d'Estaing, President of Club Med, inaugurated Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers on Thursday, June 6 and celebrated the renovation and extension which represent a global amount of 42 million euros.

More than 200 guests from 20 countries around the world attended the inauguration of the new face of Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers on June 6, 2019.

Elected officials, local actors and institutions, partners, investors, journalists discovered the new experiences offered to customers such as the new family zone and the new zen zone exclusively reserved for adults.

Club Med: a major player in the development of the Mauritian economy and tourism

Since 1973, when it opened the resort of La Pointe aux Canonniers on a preserved site in Grand Bay, Club Med has continued to invest in Mauritius with the opening of the resort of La Plantation d'Albion – 1st Club Med Exclusive Collection (opened in 2007) - followed by the opening of the Villas d'Albion – 1st Club Med Property program (launched in 2010).

The annual activity of these two resorts represents an important windfall for local economy by generating direct jobs for more than 500 Mauritians - more than 50% of GOs (Gentils Organisateurs) and GEs (Gentils Employés) - and also by generating indirect jobs.

Many activities are contracted out by nearly 200 local service providers, generating significant local economic benefits.

Carried out in 2018 and over a short period of 5 months, the renovation and extension works of Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers represent a global investment of 42 million euros, in partnership with COFIVRA, the owner of the resort. These works, which has mobilized many Mauritian companies, have made now this resort the new flagship of Club Med in Mauritius. They also strengthen the already strong relationship between Mauritius and Club Med.

This relationship is also characterized by the employment of nearly 1,000 Mauritians in one of worldwide Club Med resorts, and by the partnership established between Club Med and two Mauritian hotel management schools - each year Mauritian resorts integrate interns from these schools.

As La Plantation d'Albion, Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers hosts French, South African and international customers. With its new structures, the resort contributes to fully reinforce Mauritius’s prestige and attractiveness on an international scale and will attract new customers such as Asians, benefiting from flights from Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.
