Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga, together with local shooters gathered at the lovely Wangaratta Clay Target Club ground to compete for the hohour of having their name inscribed on the prestigious Attwood-Law Cup. This beautiful silver cup was donated to the Wangaratta Club 12 years ago by those two great skeet supporters - Bill Attwood of Melbourne and ex-Wangaratta Secretary Kevin Law - for the promotion of skeet at Wangaratta. It is competed for twice yearly and awarded to the high gun winner over two 50-target Championship events. On this occasion the proud winner was Tim Evans of Mdlbourne with 99-100 closely followed by a fellow club member, Reg Moody who scored 98-100. Bill Attwood who has always been very generous to junior shooters, thought it would be a great idea if junior skeet was promoted in the same manner as the open section, consequently an Attwood-Law junior cup was donated in November. The Guns with the latest and up to date technology built into them:

Perazzi is the innovative gun that has done so much for so many in such a short time (in comparison with other manufacturers) since their introduction that,it is obviously thequality gun of the present and vely possible the gun of the foreseeable future, It is the gun that amazes shooters (beginners and experienced) w~th11s most effortless speed and ease of handling to give you the scores. That score that makes you a winner - in fact if you take notice it is the gun that is making headlines up front more often most times for the percentage of guns used. Now analyse this and you must surely convince yourself that value for money your first or next gun must surely be a PERAZZI. Their balance is superb. We have so many of the more popular modeis in stock that there must surely be a model to suit you. If not, it-would only be a telex call away and remember they are easy to shoot and extremely soft on your shoulder. Also you must surely appreciate the simplicity of its dismantling and reassembling quality system as the innovation of the Cen,lUly and second to none in gun design. If you haven't seen one, ask anyone who has one. He would be as proud to show it to you as he Is to own it. So now think positive - "PERAZZI FROM YOZZI". Another item of interest I noticed at Echuca Gun Club was the listing of all their club members who have won National Titles. This to me is a great idea, and should be followed by other clubs who have been fortunate to have their members or member attain such honour. On January 14th Mildura Gun Club conducted afarewell shoot and social for well-known shooter and supporter of the club, Jim Finis and his family. To our disappointment, but with our good wishes they have left Mildura and are now residing in Southport, Queensland. Jim and his wife Cherie have been great workers for the club and will be sadlv missed. Jim. who was known as a "Blockie" here, sold out and purchascd a newsagcncy in Southport. EDITOWS MAILBOX Dear Sir, The Reverend David McLeod is retiring as Chaplain of the Anglican Church Community of Williams Point Cook Air Force Base in Melbourne. This news item would mean little to the non-shooting fraternity, but if I told you that David McLeod. AA grade shooter, and officer-in-chargeof the W.P.C. Gun Club, is leaving that position you will understand that his presence will be missed in the shooting arena, particularly in the western areas of Melbourne gun clubs. He has had wide experience in the sport having shot in before taking up his post in Melbourne. He has recently embraced the trench discipline in which he has acquitted himself creditahly. For seven years he has watched the fortunes of the club and initiated many changes including the installation of hopper fed traps and a tower facility. He has been ably supported by his wife Barbara and dauehter Lisa who both assist in the running. of the club in the Darling for lhe table. SHOOTER'S CORNER Q: I was under the impression that there would not be any changes to the rules until a period of five years had elapsed since the last review of the rule book. As there have been a number of rule changes in recent issues of C.T.S.N. could you please explain the reasons why. A. The last review of the A.C.T.A. rule book took place effective 1.4.88 with no further review contemplated before 1993. This does not mean. however, that rule changes andior amendments will not occur, for as you have rightly pointed out they have been occurring. Quite simply it means that for other than rule matters that are brought (~ecretiry), Alderman Ray Frawley (patron), ~AnkMcDonald to the attention of one of the Rules Committee, there is no (Commirtee). intention to conduct a formal full scale review until 1993. Q: I read with interest the question on the handicap system in the Shooter's Corner, January C.T.S.N. It is my opinion that there must be equality as towhen acompetitor receives a handicap penalty. I would like to make a few suggestions that may be of assistance when the handicap system is reviewed: (1) If a competitor wins an open handicap he should receive a 1-metrehandicap penalty. (2) If a competitor wins overall or first place in his section in a grouped handicap he should receive a 1-metre handicap penalty. (3) Handicap sweepstakes will be more difficult for handican. nenalties. to a~~lv.. . because more than one compelltor may receivc first place compulsory division. (4) The only handicap where there should be no penalty 1s a handicap cye opener (c g. 10 target cye opener before a handicap championship). (5) Competitors' scores should have no bearing on whether or not a competitor receives a handicap penalty: the trophies received &e the same if the competitor shoots - Frawley (Patron), COI Simcoe (~olunteerDozer Driver). Cont'd over page AUSTRALIAN CLAY TARGET NEWS - MARCH 1990 PAGE21 a possible or not. (6) Competitors who shoot second place should not LET'S TALK ABOUT receive a handicap penalty (why should second place get the same penalty as the winner) irrespective of the score SHOOTING SKEET shot? Clubs may program more'handicaps and competitors HERE:BRE SOME TIPS ON may be more willing to enter these types of events if the handicap system is equal for all involved in our sport. in-~ handiaao~~~ ~~~ ..~= -~mou~in~s? ..-. A: The rules do not allow for this to take place. Common mark shooting is totally drPfcrcnt from hand~capshooting which is programmed to enable shooters to compete on a more equal footing than common mark where all shooters are equd. 8: At what age is a member considered to be a veteran and has any thought been given to introducing a super veteran for those over seventy years of age? A: A.C.T.A. veterans are those members who have attained 65 years of age. The subject of a veterans age has been discussed many times with the existing 65 years being considered the age to be used in competition. As there are not sufficient competitors actively engaged in competition over 70 years of age no variance to the veterans age is contemplated.

Often we see shooters "fall into a hole" on a particular target, then go from bad to worse in an attempt to get back their form. They actually get to a stage where the target is Continued lost before they even shoot at it - it does, in fact become a next month monster. . . . When this problem crops up we need to go back and have a look at the basic principle of skeet shooting. We must be sure of our correct stance in relation to the position of gun holding and the spot where we wish to break the target. And if we are watchng closely for the target to appear, this is done by focusing our eyes in the areaaround the trap opening, then our chances of breaking the target are very much better. Remember, look hard for the target and continue to watch it until your gun catches up to and passes to establish lead and trigger let-off. On stations 2.6 and 8 it becomes necessary to use the left hand more in order to help in putting the barrels in line with the fast-flying target. It also helps in accurate pointing and establishing proper lead. Positionof the left hand on fore-end is vital. It should not be extended too far out. Best position for fast and accurate pointing is a muple of inches forward of the gun's metal action.
