Despite the current challenges due to the uncertain education landscape brought about by COVID-19, it is both heart-warming and encouraging to see MELTA continue its quest to advance English language education through its many activities. We are aware that MELTA activities have a strong following among English language teachers here in Malaysia and the region. As such, I am certain that this conference will pave the way for an enriching exchange of knowledge, experiences, ideas and opinions in an online platform. I expect the conference to provide a fertile ground for both researchers and classroom practitioners from diverse settings and am confident that the conference delegates will be able to indulge in healthy dialogues and expand their network for further collaboration. Such collaboration is essential for knowledge-sharing and we have learnt that communication among classroom practitioners is essential for minimising disruption to education in these uncertain times. In addition to a traditional conference format, I am pleased to note that MELTA Online 2021 also has specific events such as the Creative Student Teacher Showcase to encourage participation by our student teachers as well as a Project-Based Learning competition for school students. It is my hope that opportunities like these provide the motivation for learning and sharing. I place on record our sincere appreciation to MELTA which has worked hard in organising this conference with a note that the Ministry of Education, Malaysia is supportive of all activities which lead to the professional growth of our teachers. Finally, I wish all delegates an enriching learning experience at the 29th MELTA International Conference. 4 29th MELTA INTERNATIONAL ONLINE CONFERENCE MESSAGE FROM MELTA PRESIDENT On behalf of the entire MELTA committee, I am pleased to welcome you to the 29th MELTA International Conference. We made the difficult decision to postpone the conference last year when the Movement Control Order was imposed in Malaysia to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, we are still unable to return to our traditional conference format, and we are therefore bringing you MELTA Online 2021. I am pleased that MELTA supporters have continued to stand by us as we move forward, guided by the association’s vision of advancing English language education and contributing to teacher professional development. We received a large number of abstract submissions; however, the online format did not allow us to include many deserving paper presenters in our schedule. We will strive to improve the management of the conference and provide more opportunities in the future. We hope that the online format for the conference appeals to you as you join us from the comfort of your homes, and participate in thematic tracks of your choice. We also welcome a large number of school students who will be participating in our project-based learning competition which has been renamed in honour of our immediate past president, the late Professor Dr Ganakumaran Subramaniam. I would like to thank the key speakers who agreed to be part of the conference, and our associate partners who continue to support our conference. I am also grateful for the support of the many sponsors who have stepped forward to be part of this event despite uncertain times. Bermula dari hibah penelitian yang peneliti terima dari Kementerian Ristekdikti melalui format Penelitian Dasar Unggulan Perguruan Tinggi (PDUPT) tahun 2018-2019 dengan judul PERJALANAN SINEMA INDONESIA, dihasilkan banyak data yang menunjukkan bahwa film bukan hanya sebagai karya seni yang keberadaannya sebagai tontonan dan hiburan, namun ternyata film sarat dengan gejala persoalan persoalan struktural. Dalam film, selain aspek sinematografi yang bersifat teknis, yang amat menarik adalah dari aspek pesan yang disampaikan. Film adalah gejala komunikasi massa. Posisinya sebagai media komunikasi massa yang memiliki tujuan penting, yakni menyampaikan sesuatu. Itulah yang disebut pesan (message). Pesan disampaikan melalui rangkaian scine yang membentuk cerita (story), bisa juga melalui dialog dialog antar tokoh dalam film, latar belakang dari cerita (setting) dan bahkan melalui karakter tokoh tokoh yang ada. Melalui pesan itulah penonton mendapat pesan tentang segala sesuatu. Menurut beberapa teori komunikasi massa, justru pada tataran pesan itu efek terhadap penonton bekerja. Karena itu, dalam sejarah sinema Indonesia sering Negara masuk (mengatur) sampai ke pesan film. Misalnya, pada periode Penjajahan Jepang, film dipakai sebagai alat propaganda. Pada masa itu, film dibuat dengan tujuan untuk mempengaruhi penduduk Indonesia mendukung imperialisme Nipon dengan semboyan Persaudaraan Asia. Demikian juga pada masa pasca Proklamasi yang dikenal sebagai sebagai masa Orde Lama (1945-1966), regim Orde Baru menganggap bahwa revolusi Indonesia tidak pernah selesai, karena itu semua hal termasuk kesenian harus diposisikan sebagai alat revolusi.

    ISVS e-journal, Vol. 6, no.2, March, 2019 A Comparative Study of Iranian Nomadic Housing Najemh Hassas1 & Justyna Borucka2 Gdańsk University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Poland Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present the typical domestic space and to describe and analyze a particular temporary architecture (nomadic house) in order to perceive the exceptional nomadic culture and the architecture associated with it. The research investigates some of the nomadic tribes of Iran and their living space: including the nomadic home (Black Tent) and, uses those findings to analyze their unique culture. The research is a comparative study of the nomadic housing of Iranian tribes. Rediscovering different architecture of nomadic people who need migration between their summer and winter residences, who need places for their livestock and therefore who need different methods of living helps to understand this particular modus vivendi. In this regard, documenting how Iranian tribes can arrange and design their homes seems to be a good method for the preservation of this culture. Keywords: Architecture, Nomadic Architecture, Nomads of Iran, Domestic Space; Housing, Identity, Cultural Heritage Introduction Migration is one of the most prevalent forms of social life, which has continued since the formation of human social life in antiquity. The nomads of Iran are from different tribes living across Iran. During migration, they also take their housing from one region to another. This housing has been adapted to their geographical lifestyle. For this reason, it is possible to argue that nomadic tribes have used the most portable and mobile housing since ancient times.

Bu makale Türkmen halısının bazı özelliklerini dilbilimsel açıdan ele alıyor.Yazıda uzun zamandır tartışma konusu olan halı sözcüğünün nasıl türediği açıklanıyor. Halı terminolojisinde ‘dokumya başlamak’ anlamındaki yügürt- fiili incelenirken Türkmen ağızlarında Türkmen çadırının, toplandıktan sonra yerde bıraktığı daire biçimli izi için yaygın olarak kullanılan yügürt > yüwürt sözcüğünün yardımıyla yurt sözcüğünün nasıl türediği ortaya çıkarılıyor. Aynı şekilde Eski Tükçede ‘kocanın kardeşi’ anlamına gelen yurç sözcüğünün etimolojisi de açıklığa kavuşturuluyor. Nikah kıymak (Azerbaycan Türkçesinde kesmek) birleşik fiili konusunda kimse pek kafa yormamış ve bu söz olduğu gibi kabul edilmiştir. Arapça nikah sözcüğünün Eski Türkçedeki karşılığı ‘düğüm’ anlamındaki tügün’dür. Bu yazıda nikah/ tügün kıymak deyiminin halyla ilgili olduğu açıklanıyor. İngilizcede evlenmek için to tie the not/ düğüm atmak deyimi kullanılırken bu deyimin Türkçe karşılığı tügünü kıymak/ düğümü kesmek’tir. Bunun halı ile ilgili olduğunu bir Türkmen evlilik ritüelinden öğreniyoruz: imam nikah kıyarken Türkmen kadın da bir düğümü keser gibi elindeki makası sürekli açıp kapar. Öte yandan Türkmen halısının en önemli desenine göl denir; her Türkmen boyunun kendisine özgü göl‘ü vardır. Bu desen Şamanizm’in yir sub kültü ile ilgilidir. Yir kavramı da Şamanizm’de kutsal sayılan dağ ile ifade edilir. Dağda yaşayan hayvanlar, meselâ dağ koçu konurbaş da kutsaldır. Türkmen halk müziğinde konurbaş mukamı vardır.

General reminders to parents COVID-19 SITUATION AT SRI KL • At this time, there are no reported cases of Covid-19 amongst staff, students or parents of Sri KL. • Current school start times and pick-up times remain in force until further notice. • The Standard Operating Procedure issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) regarding social distancing, temperature checking and the wearing of facemasks remains in full force. RESUMPTION OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTVITIES AT SRI KL • On the 18th of August, Minister in the National Security Council (MKN), Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced that the MoH and the MoE have decided that school-based co-curricular activities can resume starting from the 1st of September 2020. • The announcement goes on to say that students wishing to participate will be required to obtain the approval of their parents before schools can allow them to take part in any co-curricular activity. • Additionally, all schools must conduct co-curricular activities following a revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that will incorporate rules on maintaining social distancing, personal hygiene and the wearing of facemasks as appropriate.

Radzi Bin Md. Jidin, announced that all schools in Malaysia would be allowed to reopen in stages starting from the 1st March 2021. Further information from the Ministry of Education confirmed that international schools would be allowed to follow their own schedule from this date. § After considering the situation, we have decided to open both Sri KL Primary and Secondary Schools for F2F lessons over the month of March for all Year groups. (Please refer to the schedules below.) § As such, all students will be attending F2F classes on a full-time basis. § Therefore, we shall not be adopting the “1 week on, 1 week off” approach. This will remain a contingency plan in the event that Covid-19 infection levels spike again. § Student attendance is voluntary and students not returning to school will not be penalized. However, once F2F lessons resume there will be no more hybrid classes except for Y11 students. § Any students remaining at home will be given class work via email and/or Google Classroom. Teachers will monitor their progress via weekly one-to-one Google Classroom sessions. § IMPORTANT: If total student attendance at Primary and/or Secondary School consistently drops below 60% for any reason (including infection and consequential isolation of whole classes), then School (Primary and/or Secondary) will revert to 100% on-line classes once again.
