With over 191 million Equivalent Album Sales sold since the beginning of his career, Eminem is one of the most successful artists in the industry overall and the most successful one in hip hop. The enormity of Eminem’s success is difficult to comprehend, even when we report on his records and milestones daily. Freshly updated streaming and sales numbers put things into perspective – and put Marshall ahead of almost everybody active in the industry now. Chartmasters.org keeps an eye on streaming and sales numbers of leading artists. Their Commensurate Sales to Popularity Concept (CSPC) brings together albums, physical and download singles, as well as audio and video streaming. It also gives exciting insights into Eminem’s popularity. This result is overshadowed by his downloading numbers – over 206 million. Having added Marshall’s streaming numbers, Chartmasters come to the total of 190,983,000 Equivalent Album Sales that make Eminem the most successful artist who debuted after 1983 and by far the most successful rapper of all time. Also, Eminem is the 2nd highest-selling artist of all time in downloads and ringtones. Eminem's Surprise New Album 'Kamikaze' Debuts At No. 1. Some artists need months of promotion and pushing singles onto the masses in order to have a shot at the top spot on the albums chart, but Eminem isn’t one of them. Last Friday (August 31), the rapper shocked the world by surprise-releasing a full-length album, Kamikaze , with absolutely no warning and no proper announcement. All of a sudden, the record was available on digital download storefronts and via streaming platforms (it wasn’t available to buy upon arrival in any physical form), and fans reacted by rushing to listen to what Marshall Mathers had come up with this time around. Kamikaze debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with ease thanks to 434,000 equivalent units. Of that sum, 252,000 are actual sales. The newly-released title is Eminem’s tenth solo No. 1 album, an impressive sum that even many of the most successful artists of all time haven’t managed. Eight of those No. 1s are proper albums of new material, and the other two include his successful soundtrack for the film 8 Mile (which he also starred in) and his greatest hits compilation Curtain Call: The Hits . In addition to his 10 No. 1 albums, Eminem has also sent four other titles into the top 10, bringing his career total as a soloist to 14 top 10s. As a member of a group, Eminem has even more successes to his credit, even if they aren’t often listed among his accomplishments. Eminem has nabbed an additional three No. 1 albums, two as a founding member of D12 (2001’s Devil’s Night and 2004’s D12 World ) and one as one-half of Bad Meets Evil, the supergroup he formed with fellow hip-hop musician Royce da 5’9”. Bad Meets Evil has only released one EP, Hell: The Sequel , which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in 2011. Since none of the songs featured on Kamikaze were released before the album itself, none have charted on the singles listing yet, though when the Hot 100 refreshes in a short while, the rapper will likely add at least a few new cuts to his ever-expanding list of charting singles. Surprise albums are becoming more and more popular with the biggest names in the business, but Eminem’s drop was particularly shocking, as he typically spaces his full-lengths out with a few years separating them. His last album, Revival , was released less than a year ago in December 2017, when it also reached the summit, though it did fail to produce any top 10 hits. Surprise! Eminem Unleashes New Album ‘Kamikaze’ After more than 20 years in the game, Eminem proves he still has the shock factor. For, moments ago the Hip-Hip titan unleashed his 10th studio album – ‘Kamikaze.’ Released without any pre-warning, the Interscope set reunites Em with longtime collaborator Dr Dre who serves alongside him as executive producer of the 13-song collection. Uniquely, the project arrives less than a year after the rapper dropped his 9th offering ‘Revival’ – which topped charts upon its debut in December, but wasn’t received well by critics.
