They also archive their own Web site at loc.gov. Las Vegas-Clark County Library District virtual library manager Lauren Stokes said they archive their video and audio content in a variety of media. They use local server storage, portable hard drive backups as well as CD backups. Server storage is also backed up on tapes rotated into cold storage. Boston Public Library’s director of administration and technology David Leonard said their digitization efforts are focused on accessibility. Library Review , 61 (5), 362–377. https://doi.org/http://dx.doi.org/10.1108/00242531211280487 Purpose - The process of developing and implementing UK legislation for the legal deposit of electronic and other non-print publications has been lengthy and remains incomplete, although the Government has consulted on draft regulations for implementation in 2013. The purpose of this paper is to provide a short account of progress and review the experience, analysing several factors that have influenced the legislative process and helped shape the proposed regulations. It summarises the regulatory and non-regulatory steps taken by the UK legal deposit libraries to address the legitimate concerns of publishers and describes some of the practical implications of implementing legal deposit for non-print publications. Design/methodology/approach - The paper draws upon the personal experiences of the authors, who have been directly involved in the legislative process and negotiations with publishers and other stakeholders. Findings - The paper provides new information and a summary of key issues and outcomes, with explanations and some insights into the factors that have influenced them. The Wayback Machine is a private initiative, based on a private foundation, using the cooperation of volunteers in many countries in the world. It gathers world websites without any selection or censorship. UK Web Archive is an initiative of British libraries, which wish to fulfill the idea of legal deposit of British websites (which is currently unworkable because of underdeveloped laws).     Network-Political Resiliency A Classification of Internet Resiliency by Country Chloe Reynolds & Saghar Tamaddon Network-Political Resiliency 2 Abstract Recent Internet disruptions in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Burma and Nepal beg the question, “How vulnerable is any country to an Internet access disruption by its government?” This paper seeks to answer that question by taking a look at both internet infrastructure and politics to create a „Network-Political Resiliency‟ (NPR) classification. The network infrastructure metric for each country is based on Roberts and Larochelle‟s (2010) number of „Points of Control‟ (POCs). POCs are the most influential Autonomous Systems (ASs) in a country‟s Internet network. Roberts and Larochelle determined the POCs based on a new AS relationship inference method, applied to data from The Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA). Three different political metrics are used, gathered from two sources: a) OpenNet Initiative‟s Political Internet Filtering score (see map in Appendix 2), b) OpenNet Initiative‟s overall Internet Filtering score, and c) Reporters Without Borders‟ Internet Enemies Report (see map in Appendix 3). The combination of these metrics results in a final NPR classification. In short, only a small portion of countries has a "high" NPR classification, and most fall into the low and very low resiliency categories. Given that Internet access is felt by many to be a matter of human rights, national NPR levels can be a red flag for concerned entities, such as human rights organizations. NPR ratings can also serve as a call for increasing network infrastructure. Network-Political Resiliency 3 Political Infrastructure of the Internet Proponents of open Internet access and net neutrality argue that unfiltered widely and freely available Internet access is a democratization tool (Reporters Without Borders, 2011).

This online publication of existing mission and/or vision statements is an outgrowth of that effort. This is a collaborative effort by the members of the Government Libraries Section of IFLA and will be continuously updated as additional statements are identified. Why a mission statement? What is the purpose of a mission statement? How does a mission statement differ from a vision statement? For-profit businesses and non-profit organizations have long had mission and vision statements that identify their direction, their purpose, the basic goals, characteristics, and philosophies that shape their businesses and organizations. The determination of these entities forms the backbone of the corporate mission and forms the culture that will guide the management and employees in their daily work and in their interaction with customers. As situations and focus change, it may become necessary to redefine the mission and/or vision statement. The revised or updated mission statement will most likely reflect the same elements and values as the original. The mission statement will still define the executive philosophy of the business, the self-concept of the business and even the desired public image.

Details of this and other initiatives indicated below are available at http://www.e-helvetica.ch b) b) Electronic publications – federal level The SNL and the Swiss Federal Archives have sent out a tender to acquire a shared mass storage system for electronic documents. c) c) Electronic publications – nationally The SNL has signed an agreement with the Commission of Swiss University Libraries for the deposit of online theses at the SNL for long-term archiving. A minimal metadata set has been defined. The OAI-PMH protocol will be used (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). In November 2003, the SNL organised a colloquium for Swiss cantonal libraries on electronic publications and archiving and will start cooperative programmes. d) d) Electronic publications - internationally. The SNL continues to work with Die Deutsche Bibliothek and now also the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in the fields of archiving online theses using the MetaDiss standard and the creation and maintenance of URNs (Uniform Resource Names. e) e) The memory of Switzerland The SNL has been mandated to define a ‘memory policy’ for Switzerland. The proposals submitted to the Department of the Interior have not yet been discussed.
