Media Information VAN DYK/RUST WINS THE 2019 ROAD TO DAKAR The 2019 Road to Dakar, which was again supported by Toyota SA Motors, saw the Namibian crew of Jaco van Dyk and navigator Michel Rust take the honours, in their Red-Lined Motorsport Nissan Navara. The pair were locked in a tight tussle for the win with teammates Schalk Burger and Elvene Vonk, in an identical car, but prevailed to ensure free entry to the 2021 Dakar Rally. This race-within-a-race has been part of the South African Cross Country Series’ (SACCS) Toyota 1000 Desert Race in the past, and this year saw nine crews enter the Road to Dakar, for a chance to win a free entry to the Dakar Rally, widely accepted as the world’s toughest automotive race. Charles Cuypers, Director of Competitor Relations for the Dakar Rally at the Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO), the company behind the annual Dakar Rally, was in Botswana for this year’s desert race, and was impressed with the event: “The quality of the organisation is excellent, and the many thousands of spectators really add to the atmosphere of the race. But more than that, the quality of the competitors is really very good, and we’re looking forward to hosting Jaco and Michael at the Dakar Rally in 2021.” This year’s Toyota 1000 Desert Race (TDR 1000) took place on 21-23 June, in a new location around the town of Selebi-Phikwe in eastern Botswana. Despite the move to a new area, the race retained its key characteristics as the only marathon event on the South African Cross Country calendar: The race distance was 1,000 km; and the race took place over a total of three days.

2021 Dakar Rally: PKN ORLEN and star to drive with Przygonski/Gottschalk New route, new rules, proven partners - together with their sponsors PKN ORLEN and star petrol stations, the dream team of Jakub Przygonski and Timo Gottschalk want to finish the most demanding rally in the world standing atop one of the coveted podium positions. Elmshorn, 4th of January 2021 – Yesterday, on 3rd of January, Jakub “Kuba” Przygonski from Warsaw (Poland) and Timo Gottschalk from Neuruppin (Germany) started this year's Dakar Rally in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia once again as a well-rehearsed team – this time in a 2021 Toyota Hilux. The rally distance of 7643 kilometres, of which 4767 kilometres are special stages, will be an opportunity for them to put all of their skills to the test. The Dakar Rally has found a new home in Saudi Arabia, after being held there for the first time last year. While the 2020 competition could be described as an initial journey of discovery, the 2021 route will be a far more challenging exploratory tour. The stages will feature a number of sand and dune stretches, as well as very rocky tracks, which will push the drivers to their limits. The roadbook will also be handed out minutes before the start of the rally, in order to test the co-drivers' navigation skills to the extreme. In return, the number of high-speed passages has been significantly reduced, and there is even a speed limit of 90 km/h for particularly dangerous passages. These challenges suit Jakub Przygonski and Timo Gottschalk to a T.

HERO MOTOSPORTS TEAM RALLY KEEPS IT STEADY IN STAGE 3 OF THE DAKAR RALLY Wadi Ad-Dawasir, Saudi Arabia, January 05, 2021 Continuing their sound run in the 2021 Dakar Rally, the rider trio from Hero MotoSports Team Rally turned in another good performance in the third stage of the rally today. Joaquim Rodrigues finished the stage in 20th place, Sebastian Buhler came in 21st and Santosh closed the stage in 36th place. Joaquim Rodrigues led the team standings today as well, continuing to grow in confidence. In a predominantly sandy stage, he retained his Top 20 position in the overall rankings at the end of Stage 3. Sebastian Buhler also kept it steady throughout the stage to retain his 24th position in the overall rankings while CS Santosh tackled another long stage really well to gain a couple of positions in the overall rankings. He now stands at the 34th position. It is still early days in the Dakar 2021 but the growing confidence of JRod, consistency of Buhler and determination of Santosh coupled with the flawless performance of the new Hero 450 Rally bike bodes well for the team’s prospects in the upcoming stages. Up next, the rally will move out of the Wadi Ad-Dawasir to the capital city of Riyadh for the longest stage of the rally covering 813 kms, including the transport section. The timed special will be relatively shorter at 337 kms. Joaquim Rodrigues (Competitor No. 27) said, “Today was a lonely stage for me as I was riding alone for most part of it.

  • A Case Study of Mahsud Tribe in South Waziristan Agency
RELIGIOUS MILITANCY AND TRIBAL TRANSFORMATION IN PAKISTAN: A CASE STUDY OF MAHSUD TRIBE IN SOUTH WAZIRISTAN AGENCY By MUHAMMAD IRFAN MAHSUD Ph.D. Scholar DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF PESHAWAR (SESSION 2011 – 2012) RELIGIOUS MILITANCY AND TRIBAL TRANSFORMATION IN PAKISTAN: A CASE STUDY OF MAHSUD TRIBE IN SOUTH WAZIRISTAN AGENCY Thesis submitted to the Department of Political Science, University of Peshawar, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Award of the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN POLITICAL SCIENCE (December, 2018) DDeeddiiccaattiioonn I Dedicated this humble effort to my loving and the most caring Mother ABSTRACT The beginning of the 21st Century witnessed the rise of religious militancy in a more severe form exemplified by the traumatic incident of 9/11. While the phenomenon has troubled a significant part of the world, Pakistan is no exception in this regard. This research explores the role of the Mahsud tribe in the rise of the religious militancy in South Waziristan Agency (SWA). It further investigates the impact of militancy on the socio-cultural and political transformation of the Mahsuds. The study undertakes this research based on theories of religious militancy, borderland dynamics, ungoverned spaces and transformation. The findings suggest that the rise of religious militancy in SWA among the Mahsud tribes can be viewed as transformation of tribal revenge into an ideological conflict, triggered by flawed state policies. These policies included, disregard of local culture and traditions in perpetrating military intervention, banning of different militant groups from SWA and FATA simultaneously, which gave them the raison d‘etre to unite against the state and intensify violence and the issues resulting from poor state governance and control.
