  • How I Got the Job at Adidas Combat Gear When I Initially Heard About Adidas Combat Sports USA, It Was Through My Friend Jeff
How I Got The Job at Adidas Combat Gear When I initially heard about adidas Combat Sports USA, it was through my friend Jeff Chu, a local photographer and videographer. He had taken on a job as part of his freelance career and since I had recently been laid off from a magazine I was working for, decided to tag along. "It's all about the networking in this business," Jeff said. And it is. Because I tagged along, I met ACS President Scott Viscomi and five months later had a job as a blog editor of this website. Before Scott had taken on the task of creating some of the best gear in the combat sports industry, the adidas logo had entered the realm of jiu-jitsu competition when I was only a white belt years ago. Or at least that's the first time I had seen it. The gis that were created then were more cut for a judo competitor, with short sleeves and stiff material. It wasn't pliable, equipt to move along with a jiu-jitsu athlete while playing spider guard or butterfly guard, or passing guard and taking the back. Somewhere along the line, before I ever saw an adidas gi again, the design changed. It was in new hands. As I walked into Church Street Boxing in Lower Manhattan, it was a lot different from the jiu-jitsu academies I'd trained in for six years. In the middle of the main room was a raised boxing ring and all around it were walls covered in mirrors and old photographs and fight posters.

WBO Jr. Welterweight champion Chris Algieri Chosen to be Grand Marshal at 5th Annual Huntington Awareness Day Parade W o r l d c h a m p i o n b o x er Chris Algieri and longtime community leaders Anthony Mastrioanni and Thomas Jerideau will be honored as grand marshals when the Fifth Annual Huntington Awareness Day parade kicks off on Saturday, September 6. First held in 2010, Huntington Awareness Day has become an annual tradition, with thousands of people turning out to celebrate the community’s unity, diversity and solidarity. As in previous years, bands, floats, vintage cars, service groups and local merchants will join the march down New York Avenue through Huntington Station from West Hills Road to the pedestrian plaza at Olive Street. Following a brief ceremony, everyone will cross New York Avenue to the fair in the municipal parking lot between Railroad and Church Streets. The fair will include performances by local artists and booths offering crafts and services. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and the fair will remain open until 5 p.m. This year’s honorees span different generations and areas of expertise. Algieri, 30, grew up in Huntington and graduated from St. Anthony’s High School, where he captained the varsity wrestling team and later served as an assistant coach. He graduated from Stony Brook University, with honors, with a degree in health care management and later earned a master’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology. A kickboxer in college, Algieri won the International Sport Karate Association’s Welterweight and World Kickboxing Association Super Welterweight Championships before retiring as a kickboxer to take up prizefighting.

They can plan ahead or overlook me but I’m coming to be victorious on March 18..” “Getting away has been great for me, there’s a lot less distractions in Oakland than if I stayed in Brooklyn.” “I’ve been down twice in my career but I’m but not worried about my chin. He’s a very strong guy but it’s up to me to prove I’m quicker and better.” “I don’t know how hard he punches, I’ve never faced him but anybody can be hurt and I’m confident in my power that I can hurt him. All the questions about my chin and heart will be answered on March 18.” “I’m really a boxer, I’ve just become known as a knockout artist with all my stoppages.” “Having Andre Ward here in my camp is terrific.

  • World Champion Lee Overwhelmed at 'Irish
WORLD CHAMPION LEE OVERWHELMED AT ‘IRISH INVASION’ AS HE LOOKS FORWARD TO MANCHESTER SHOWDOWN LONDON (27 August) – Boxing star Andy Lee has been overwhelmed at the number of Irish fans set to travel to Manchester for his world title clash with Billy Joe Saunders. The WBO middleweight world champion defends his title against the unbeaten Londoner in an Ireland versus England showdown and has been taken aback at the number of fans snapping up tickets for the October 10th Manchester Arena clash. Masses of Irish supporters disappointed at not seeing their hero fight on home soil following the rescheduling of his Limerick bout due to illness are refusing to be deterred and are buying up tickets in massive numbers to make the trip across the Irish Sea. “It doesn’t surprise me to hear that there is a massive contingent of fans coming over from Ireland because they always show tremendous support to me and other Irish sports people,” said Lee. “I’m humbled at the response for tickets – it just goes to show the loyalty of Irish fans and their love for sport. “It’s going to be like fighting at home when I’m in Manchester because of all the Irish in the arena. I know they’re going to make it a very hostile atmosphere for Billy Joe and I intend to repay them by making it a night not to forget – it’s going to be very special,” he said. Together with the local diaspora the travelling contingent from Ireland will be loud and proud in another chapter of Irish-English sporting rivalry.

Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT “There were rumors that a fight between me and Mickey Bey was on the brink of happening prior to my fight against Denis Shafikov, so now that it is here, I know it was destined to happen,” said Barthelemy. “I’m not a rookie anymore. I’m not going into this worried or nervous about it being my first title defense at 135. I’m comfortable enough now to see every fight as just another challenge I need to execute my game plan the most effectively and with the least amount of errors.” “Barthelemy won my title, I had to vacate it due to a hand injury, so all he is doing is keeping it warm for me,” said Bey. “Training camp is going great. I have been training hard for over a month. I have the best team in the business, with the most knowledgeable trainers. I’m looking forward to the challenge with him being undefeated and a two-time world champion.
