Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

Liste commentée des Pentatomoidea de la Manche Deuxième partie : les Pentatominae Cet article constitue donc le deuxième volet de l’inventaire provisoire des pentatomoïdes de la Manche. Le premier, rappelons-le, paru dans L’Argiope 73 (LIVORY , 2011) traitait les Acanthosomatidae, les Cydnidae, les Thyreocoridae, les Scutelleridae et deux sous-familles de Pentatomidae, les Podopinae et les Asopinae. Nous terminons ce recensement avec la sous-famille des Pentatominae. Avant de poursuivre notre énumération, je voudrais rendre hommage à Jean PÉRI C ART (1928-2011) qui nous a quittés l’année passée. Cet éminent entomologiste avait rédigé la plupart des ouvrages de la Faune de France consacrés aux punaises, soit comme auteur unique soit en tant que co-auteur. Les travaux de PÉRI C ART sur les hétéroptères ont une valeur immense et une portée internationale. Les volumes sur les pentatomoïdes étaient en cours de parution et sur les cinq prévus, seuls deux actuellement ont vu le jour. Nous espérons que la disparition de cet auteur n’empêchera pas la poursuite de cette publication et qu’elle conservera le même niveau scientifique. Sous-famille des Pentatominae Ces punaises possèdent un scutellum triangulaire qui ne dépasse guère en arrière le milieu de l’abdomen, ce qui les distingue nettement des Podopinae. Le rostre est mince et atteint au moins les hanches moyennes. Son premier article est logé dans un sillon qui occupe toute la longueur de la tête. Ce caractère sépare sans ambiguïté les Pentatominae des Asopinae. La 28 Bull. trim. ass. Manche-Nature, L’Argiope N° 76-77 (2012) plupart des Pentatominae sont phytophages mais quelques-uns complètent ce régime par une nourriture animale. -

Garden Mastery Tips March 2006 from Clark County Master Gardeners Flowering Quince Flowering quince is a group of three hardy, deciduous shrubs: Chaenomeles cathayensis, Chaenomeles japonica, and Chaenomeles speciosa. Native to eastern Asia, flowering quince is related to the orchard quince (Cydonia oblonga), which is grown for its edible fruit, and the Chinese quince (Pseudocydonia sinensis). Flowering quince is often referred to as Japanese quince (this name correctly refers only to C. japonica). Japonica is often used regardless of species, and flowering quince is still called Japonica by gardeners all over the world. The most commonly cultivated are the hybrid C. superba and C. speciosa, not C. japonica. Popular cultivars include ‘Texas Scarlet,’ a 3-foot-tall plant with red blooms; ‘Cameo,’ a double, pinkish shrub to five feet tall; and ‘Jet Trail,’ a white shrub to 3 feet tall. Flowering quince is hardy to USDA Zone 4 and is a popular ornamental shrub in both Europe and North America. It is grown primarily for its bright flowers, which may be red, pink, orange, or white. The flowers are 1 to 2 inches in diameter, with five petals, and bloom in late winter or early spring. The glossy dark green leaves appear soon after flowering and turn yellow or red in autumn. The edible quince fruit is yellowish-green with reddish blush and speckled with small dots. The fruit is 2 to 4 inches in diameter, fragrant, and ripens in fall. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Bugs & Beasties of the Western Rhodopes
Bugs and Beasties of the Western Rhodopes (a photoguide to some lesser-known species) by Chris Gibson and Judith Poyser [email protected] Yagodina At Honeyguide, we aim to help you experience the full range of wildlife in the places we visit. Generally we start with birds, flowers and butterflies, but we don’t ignore 'other invertebrates'. In the western Rhodopes they are just so abundant and diverse that they are one of the abiding features of the area. While simply experiencing this diversity is sufficient for some, as naturalists many of us want to know more, and in particular to be able to give names to what we see. Therein lies the problem: especially in eastern Europe, there are few books covering the invertebrates in any comprehensive way. Hence this photoguide – while in no way can this be considered an ‘eastern Chinery’, it at least provides a taster of the rich invertebrate fauna you may encounter, based on a couple of Honeyguide holidays we have led in the western Rhodopes during June. We stayed most of the time in a tight area around Yagodina, and almost anything we saw could reasonably be expected to be seen almost anywhere around there in the right habitat. Most of the photos were taken in 2014, with a few additional ones from 2012. While these creatures have found their way into the lists of the holiday reports, relatively few have been accompanied by photos. We have attempted to name the species depicted, using the available books and the vast resources of the internet, but in many cases it has not been possible to be definitive and the identifications should be treated as a ‘best fit’. -

Available online xxx Phylogenetic analyses show that the new genus belongs to the Pseuderanthemum lineage in tribe Justi- cieae.
