FRAN DRESCHER AND PETER MARC JACOBSON TO RECEIVE BLACK TIE DINNER MEDIA AWARD

DALLAS — (Sept. 25, 2013) — The onetime husband-and-wife team behind the successful TV series and will be honored with the Black Tie Dinner Media Award as part of the 32nd annual event benefiting North Texas gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender supportive organizations and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This year’s dinner will be on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Sheraton Hotel Dallas.

Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson will receive the Black Tie Dinner Media Award, which is given in recognition of positive, increased awareness of LGBT issues in the media.

Fran Drescher has earned a reputation for bringing passion and commitment to all of her endeavors. She received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal as the lovable Miss Fine on the CBS hit series The Nanny. Drescher is also an accomplished author.

A 12-year uterine cancer survivor, Drescher is the founder, president and visionary of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a nonprofit organization that is transforming patients into medical consumers. Her mission is to shift America’s focus toward prevention and early detection.

After a six-year run as executive producer and co-creator of The Nanny, Jacobson and Drescher created another series, Happily Divorced, based loosely on the story of their life together as husband and wife after Jacobson told her he was gay.

Jacobson started his career in front of the camera, guest starring in such memorable series as Murphy Brown, Beverly Hills 90210, The Facts of Life, Dynasty, Too Close for Comfort, Matlock and others.

Known to many for creating The Nanny — and as Drescher’s gay ex-husband — Jacobson continues to not only be a successful producer, but still best friends with Fran. He says he will always love her.

Happily Divorced stars Drescher as Fran, a struggling Los Angeles florist whose life is turned upside down when she learns that her husband of 18 years, Peter (played by ), is gay. He can't afford to move out, so they agree to continue living under one roof. They confront their own significant differences while she dives into the dating world and he explores his newfound sexuality.

This year’s Black Tie Media Award is “a testament to the importance of valuing and celebrating what each of us — whether gay or straight – brings to the table and speaking with One Voice for equality,” said Black Tie Dinner Co-Chair Mitzi Lemons. “Though differences surfaced in this couple’s relationship, the bottom line is, they never stopped supporting one another.”

Drescher and Jacobson joined together in 2008 to help block California’s Proposition 8.

“Drescher and Jacobson are still very much connected, despite now being divorced and living separate lives,” Black Tie Dinner Co-Chair Ken Morris said. “We are anxious to hear how Jacobson and Drescher rebuilt their friendship and made it better than ever.”

Since 1982, the nation's largest LGBT fundraising dinner has grown and prospered in a supportive environment. The evolution of our community is reflected in the yearly increases that beneficiaries have received.

The first dinner produced a $6,000 donation to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and has grown to distribute more than $17 million to national and local beneficiaries. Black Tie Dinner continues to be the most successful dinner in the country supporting the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and is the only dinner also benefiting local beneficiaries.

The event has been headlined by local and national celebrities and leaders such as Marlee Matlin, Maya Angelou, Geena Davis, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen, Gavin Newsom and U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin.
