Largest hybrid operating theatre opens in Frankston,

The need for an optimised workspace inspired the design of a state-of-the-art hybrid vascular OR at Peninsula Health, Frankston. The versatility of this room was achieved by harmonising the C-arm, pendants, lights and anaesthetic workstation.

PENINSULA HEALTH OPENS A LEADING EDGE SURGICAL EFFECTIVE INTEGRATION THEATRE The aim of any Hybrid theatre is to have all major components Peninsula Health has taken possession of a new purpose-built of the theatre harmonised to facilitate movement of the C-arm Hybrid Vascular Operating Theatre, equipped with state-of-the- and prevent any impedance by lights or pendants. For the art medical imaging technology allowing minimally-invasive and safety of the staff working within the hybrid theatre, there must image-guided surgical procedures. VERSATILITY OF DESIGN COUPLED WITH HIGH QUALITY VENTILATION Peninsula Health’s Hybrid Operating Room is mainly used for vascular which requires imaging. The pendant mount allows for the anaesthetic machine to be close to the patient during the initial stages of anaesthesia and then easily moved away from the patient to accommodate the C-arm once the procedure commences.

PATIENT MONITORING - WHERE AND WHEN YOU NEED IT Peninsula Health made a decision in 2014 to install the Dräger Infinity Acute Care System (IACS) of patient monitoring into the areas of redevelopment – Intensive Care, Coronary Care and Emergency Department. The cornerstone of this monitoring system is the M540, which is able to be used independently or part of a complete bedside system which incorporates the C500 bedside screen.

The M540 on the Infinity M500 docking station is docked right next to the bed of the patient during stationary phases such as when the patient is in the ICU. For patient transports, hospital

staffST-6168-2007_1000 are able to remove the M540 from the docking station in seconds with one hand and without having to disconnect and reconnect the patient’s cables. The monitor also monitors all vital data during the transport without interruption and forwards this data back to the server via WLAN.

The staff from the Frankston Hospital Anaesthetic Department purchased the IACS for the Hybrid theatre so that there was continuity of data for the patient throughout the hospital. In the Hybrid theatre, there is often a vast distance between where the patient is situated and where the monitoring is located on the anaesthetic workstation. This would normally entail the patient monitoring cables reaching from one location to the other across the floor and potentially hindering the progress of the C-arm. To minimise mess and improve monitoring visibility at both locations, Dräger separated the M540 from the main C500 bedside screen and mounted it on the operating table, close to the patient. No matter where the anaesthetist is standing, at the bed or at the anaesthetic workstation, they are able to visualise and control the patient monitoring. 03.2016 | Communications & Sales Marketing CS Printed in Australia Chlorine-free – environmentally compatible Subject to modifications © 2016 Drägerwerk AG Co.
