ORDER

The Relay Subdivision,Shornur is having 40 substations under its jurisdiction which includes 2 nos 220kV substations, 15 nos.110kV substations, 3nos. 66KV substations and 20 nos. 33kV substations. The Chief Engineer(Trans.System Operation) reported vide the letter read above that before the formation of the Relay Subdivision, during June 2011, the testing and commissioning activities in the stations under district were attended by the Relay Subdivisions Shornur and . Before the formation of the Relay Subdivision, Edarikode, location of the Head Quarters of Relay Subdivision at Shornur was ideal since it was geographically at the centre. But with the functioning of the Relay Subdivision, Edarikode, about 10 stations in and 2 stations in the border of which were earlier under the jurisdiction of Relay Subdivision,Shornur have been brought under Relay Subdivision,Edarikode. Now geographically, the location of the Head Quarters at Shornur happens to be at the fag end of the jurisdiction of the Subdivision. Also stations like 220kV Palakkad, 110kV , , Kollengode and many 33kV substations are about 80kms from Shornur and for attending emergency breakdown works in these stations about 2 hours journey time is required. With the commissioning of the PGCIL's 400kV substation at Mannukkad, 220kV substation Palakkad has a vital role in Kerala Grid. Therefore the delay in attending the breakdown in turn would increase the downtime and will badly affect the stability of the Grid. The Relay Subdivisions in addition to the routine testing has also to attend the recommissioning and pre-commissioning tests in the stations. If the travelling time is minimised, these tests can be completed as per the schedule ,downtime of the equipments

2 can be reduced and thereby maintaining un-interrupted quality power supply which in turn will enhance the revenue to the Board and consumer satisfaction. Therefore, the Chief Engineer(Trans.System Operation) requested sanction to shift the Head Quarters of the Relay Subdivision, Shornur to Palakkad. It is reported that the Subdivision office can be accommodated in the premises of 110kV substation Vennakkara. All basic infrastructure facilities are available in the location. The proposed location is at the geographical centre of the jurisdiction area of the Subdivision with easy access to all stations. Having considered the above, sanction is hereby accorded to shift the Head Quarters of Relay Sub division, Shornur to Palakkad and to rename the Subdivision as Relay Subdivision,Palakkad. The Relay Sub division,Palakkad will function in the space available in the premises of the 110kV substation, Vennakkara.
