Innovation We strive to create opportunities with new approaches and resources. Our Guiding Integrity Principles We do the right thing for the right reasons. Our culture is defined by six core values. They are the key to our storied legacy and the guide to our daily business decisions. Excellence We pride ourselves on the quality of our work, and we seek to exceed expectations. Entrepreneurship We believe that great organizations are built by employing and partnering with the best and brightest people. Talent We believe in fostering individual creativity and a sense of ownership. Stewardship We are dedicated to safeguarding the capital and trust of our clients, and advancing their best interests. A Letter From Managing Partner Peter Lawson-Johnston II At the time of writing this letter, the world is enduring a health crisis while the United States is undergoing a self-examination of societal inequities, both of which are challenging our preconceived notions of where and how we work, learn, worship, and most importantly, how we connect with each other as a community. This is our fourth annual Impact Report that documents our achievements and values as they relate to contributing to the communities where we live and work. But how do you assess your impact on the world, as a business, and as a corporate citizen, when the world seemingly has fundamentally changed? A crisis of this scale is remarkable in how it forces one to focus simultaneously on the uncertainty of today as well as the uncertainty of next year or future decades. Uncertainty can be insidious, and it is easy to withdraw or disengage.

Steve Burke Chief Executive Officer NBCUniversal 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10112 Jeff Shell Incoming Chief Executive Officer NBC Universal 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10112 December 17th, 2019 Dear Mr. Burke and Mr. Shell, We write as members of the New York State Legislature to express our concern about allegations of a toxic workplace environment at NBCUniversal. There is growing evidence of a culture that silences victims of harassment and those who report inappropriate workplace behavior at NBC. NBCUniversal’s recent decision not to renew Gabrielle Union’s contract on America’s Got Talent is just the latest example of a concerning pattern of behavior on the part of NBC. Union was allegedly let go after raising concerns about racist jokes made on set and having been told repeatedly that her hairstyles were “too black.” These allegations represent unacceptable workplace behavior that no one should be subject to, let alone terminated for reporting. We are grateful that NBC has committed to Union that they will investigate her allegations and termination. However, NBC must be transparent about the findings of their investigation and take concrete steps to reform the toxic culture throughout the company. Union’s experience is only one example of the systemic silencing of victims of harassment and those who have spoken up at NBC. As reported extensively by Ronan Farrow and others, NBC ignored complaints of sexual misconduct against Matt Lauer and stymied Farrow’s reporting on Harvey Weinstein while at NBC. Farrow has also reported that at least seven women have signed non-disclosure agreements with the company after alleging sexual harassment, including individuals who made complaints about Lauer before November 2017.

  • Give a Year. Change the World
give a year. change the world. ANNUAL REPORT & DONOR RECOGNITION BOOK 2010 Dear Friends, Education is the foundation of the American dream. Yet more than one million students give up on school in the United States every year. The high school dropout crisis is a national epidemic that requires bold action. There is hope. We know how to identify the students most at risk and we know what they need to succeed. Research shows that we can identify students who are likely to drop out as early as middle school by tracking early warning indicators of poor attendance, behavior issues and course failure in math and English. City Year is harnessing the energy and idealism of young adults in national service and placing them in these high-need schools to help students stay on track – and get back on track – to graduation and life success. This year, City Year united more than 1,500 diverse young leaders in full-time service to help turn around our lowest performing schools, close the education achievement gap and help students succeed. City Year deploys our AmeriCorps members into high-poverty schools, serving as "near-peer" role models and performance coaches, helping students develop socio-emotionally and achieve academically. Corps members work with at-risk students from 7:30 a.m. until the last student leaves the after-school program at dusk. We are seeing promising results: sharp increases in student attendance, progress in behavior and improved course performance in math and English. In 2010, 90% of all students tutored by City Year improved raw literacy scores, and the number of students with less than 90% attendance was cut in half as a result of City Year’s attendance support activities.

Too much TV? Enter HBO Max, the latest streaming wannabe 27 May 2020, by Tali Arbel Entertainment companies like AT&T's WarnerMedia are broadly shifting to streaming video, following in Netflix' wake, as more people drop their traditional cable bundles. Disney launched Disney Plus and the sports-focused ESPN Plus and took control of Hulu from an industry joint venture. Comcast's NBCUniversal is launching Peacock widely this summer. ViacomCBS is redoing CBS All Access, pumping it up with more programming. Even Fox Corp. has its Fox Nation app. Apple, a tech company, started a small service of its own. A This image released by HBO Max shows Drew Dixon, a short-video service targeted to cellphones, Quibi, collaborator on hit records by Method Man and Mary J. also hopes to get in on the streaming pie; it Blige, Estelle and Kanye West, and Whitney Houston, in extremely strong subscriber gains for this quarter. a scene from the documentary "On the Record." (HBO Max via AP) Is a pandemic the perfect time to launch a new and relatively expensive streaming service? AT&T sure hopes so. The phone company is investing billions in HBO Max, its first big entertainment venture since it spent $85 billion for Time Warner in 2018. The good news for its timing: millions are stuck at home, watching more video than ever. The bad news: many of them also out of work and carefully watching their incomes. The service launches Wednesday in the U.S. This image released by Sesame Workshop shows muppet character Elmo, who will host a family friendly "People are going to look at the price point first," show called "The Not Too Late Show with Elmo." It said Steve Nason, research director at Parks begins streaming May 27 on HBO Max.
