Rob Hamilton died suddenly on October 7, 2005, at age 38. He was a well known attorney, a loving son, brother, husband, and most importantly, a devoted father who left behind a one year old daughter and a three year old son. Rob died of Cardiac Sarcoidosis, and like many people with this disease, sudden death occurred absent of a previous cardiac event. Cardiac Sarcoidosis is a multi-system disease involving inflammation that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs of the body. Half of the Sarcoidosis patients never experience symptoms, with the abnormality only appearing in chest x-rays. Studies show that 60 to 70 percent of Sarcoidosis victims are between 20 to 40 years old. Sarcoidosis, once thought to be uncommon, is now known to affect tens of thousands of people throughout the United States. Undiagnosed and untreated, this disease can be fatal by causing sudden death in a seemingly healthy person. In his memory, The Rob Hamilton Memorial Golf Tournament was established to raise funds, with your support, for the Heart & Vascular Institute at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Together, we can help to ensure that research and awareness programs will ultimately help physicians better diagnose and treat Cardiac Sarcoidosis.
