WABASH COLLEGE Class Agents Letter Class of 2001 Office of Alumni Affairs P.O. Box 352 Class Agents Crawfordsville, IN 47933 N. Davey Neal Web site: www.wabash.edu [email protected] Email us: [email protected] Anthony Gigli Phone: (765) 361-6369 [email protected] Doug Springer [email protected] December 3, 2010 Dear 2001: So much to be thankful for in this holiday season: A 47-0 beat, beat, beatdown of DeBauch, keeping the Bell firmly ensconced in the Allen Center; a 17-point win over the Dannies’ “basketball team”; the website RateMyProfessor.com notched Wabash College as the 7th best school in the nation based on professor rankings (no other school in Indiana even made the list). My favorite moment of Bell weekend was something I heard in the crowd, “This is payback for ’98! Except we do it without cheating, you f.. (well, you get the idea)!” By the way, the bookstore really upped the ante in apparel this year. There were some really sharp Nike and Under Armor products on the shelves, in case you need some new threads. In other interesting Wabash news, Dr. Stephen Morillo will be featured on SPIKE TV’s hit series “Deadliest Warrior” in an upcoming episode that focuses on the battlefield exploits of William the Conqueror. A few class notes: Chad Seib married Sae La Chin in Maui on October 21st, 2010. Chad is currently performing in "Mary Poppins" on Broadway, and his wife will be performing in a new musical "Wonderland" on Broadway based on Alice in Wonderland. In 2009, Chad began a web design company (www.sightlinewebdesign.com), while his wife began her own baby company, SayBayBee (www.saybaybee.com). Mike Foster: I successfully passed my PhD preliminary exam on August 30, 2010. This academic year I will be collecting the data for my dissertation. The topic deals with classroom language learning and conversation analysis for French speakers and also for students learning French. I hope to go on the job market next year and graduate in spring 2012. Dennis Williams, physician, accepted a position as assistant professor and assistant medical director with the department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. Dennis just completed a Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program at the Hoxworth Blood Center/University of Cincinnati, and a Pathology Residency Program at Ball Memorial Hospital in June. He is living in Cincinnati with his wife, Paige, and his daughter. I’d like to recognize Carlos May and Leland Ping. Both sought election to public office this year. Leland ran unsuccessfully for Grossmont Cuy Community College District, Governing Board in Southern California and Carlos ran unsuccessfully in the GOP primary for Indiana’s 7th Congressional District. Kudos to both men for throwing their hat in the ring! If I’ve missed others, please let me know. Now on to Big Bash. Much to report. First, Khurram Tahir has agreed to be one of the Colloquium speakers. Khurram will talk about his experiences working in China for an international company. Plans for the weekend are firming up (see www.wabash.edu/alumni/reunion), and that is where you come in. I’d like to introduce you all to the Open Bar Challenge. If the Class of 2001 has more donors to the College in this fiscal year (July 1, 2010 – RSVP deadline of May 25, 2011) than we did in the prior fiscal year, Wabash will pick up the tab for our reception at our Saturday night dinner. Since we have traditionally not set records for our class giving, this should be like shooting fish in a barrel with dynamite and a spotlight. We had 39 contributors in the last fiscal year. Here is a list of those heroes that have already chipped in thus far: Tom Brown, Jr., Kevin Hunt, Suniti Karunatillake, Brian Knapp, Alex Manker, Scott McBride, Davey Neal, Nick Nussbaum, Leland Ping, Luke Prifogle, Kyle Reeser, Chris Robertson, Chad Seib, Joe Trebley, Treven Upkes, Josh Vonderheide, Scott Wallace, John Wright. For those of you keeping score at home, that’s 18 people. So we’re going to sweeten the pot, so to speak. We’re considering a traveling trophy for the living unit with the most donors. Something like a Big Swinging Something or the other. The living unit with the highest percentage of contributors will win award. But as undergrads we had Bleed for the Bell, now we’re going to have Open Your Wallets to Open the Bar. All joking aside, I sincerely hope you’ll plan on joining us June 3-5 for a great 10th Year Reunion. This will be a great opportunity to gather, reminisce and tell lies about the women we’ve loved and lost. If you’re planning to attend, please visit http://www.wabash.edu/alumni/reunion/intend and indicate your intention. It is not binding, but will give us an early idea of our numbers. Have a safe and happy holiday season. You’ll be hearing from me again soon. Best wishes, Davey .
