Mardikaliste sugukonna esindajaid jooksiklasi kasutatakse kui bioindikaatoreid, kes iseloomustavad efektiivselt alade looduslikku seisundit. Käesoleva magistritöö eesmärgiks oli uurida, kuidas on jooksiklaste arvukus ja jooksiklaste liigirikkus rabades seotud keskkonnatingimustega ning millised liigid on tundlikud keskkonnatingimuste muutuste suhtes. Selleks määrati insektifauna proovidest jooksiklaste liigid, loendati need üle ja tehti analüüs jooksiklaste ja keskkonnaparameetrite kohta 9 raba transektipunktide lõikes. Rabade insektifauna proovidest määrati 40 liiki jooksiklasi. Tulemustest selgus, et jooksiklaste arvukus ja liigirikkus on seotud kuivenduskraavi kaugusega, raba taimeliikide arvuga, rabaturba paksusega, puude kõrgusega ja minimaalse veetasemega. Jooksiklaste liigirikkus on suurem raba äärealadel ning väheneb raba keskosa suunas. Jooksiklaste arvukus on raba keskosas suur Agonum ericeti arvuka esinemise tõttu. Mitmed jooksiklaste liigid esinevad vaid teatud transektipunktides ja jooksiklaste liigirikkus ning arvukus iseloomustavad raba keskkonnatingimusi. Beetles: ground beetle are used as bio-indicators, which describe effectively the natural condition of some areas. The aim of this master’s thesis was to investigate how is the abundance of the ground beetles connected to the environmental conditions and what species are particularly sensitive to the changes of environment. For this, the species of ground beetles were determined from the insect fauna, they were counted and analyzed in accordance with the environmental parameters in paragraph of transect points in 9 bogs. From bogs insectfauna samples 40 types of ground beetles were determined. Particularly numerous in ground beetles species richness and abundance in bogs is affected by the distance of drainage ditches, marsh plant species, the number of bog peat thickness, tree height and minimum water level. Ground beetles species richness is higher in peripheral areas of the bog and decreases toward the center, and has a large ground beetle abundance of the mid bog section due to the presence of Agonum ericeti. Several ground beetle species occur only in certain sections of transect and ground beetles species richness and abundance in bogs characterize environmental conditions. In particular the number of heathland species with low dispersal ability was strongly related to area. Transplant experiments showed that some heathland species with low dispersal ability experienced reduced habitat quality in small habitats, whereas for others at least part of the unoccupied areas were of sufficient quality for successful reproduction. From the presence of occupied as well as unoccupied habitats and from knowledge on its possibilities for dispersal, it is inferred that Pterostichus lepidus lives in metapopulations with continuously and discontinuously occupied patches. A key structural component in peat bog formation is Sphagnum spp., which determines very specific associated envi- ronmental conditions. The aim of this study was to characterise some of the key factors affecting the diversity, species richness and abundance of sphagnum inhabiting ground beetles and to examine the maintenance of stable populations of cold adapted specialised peat bog species. A total of 52 carabid species were recorded by pitfall traps along six main habitats, such as the lagg zone, pine bog, hollows, hummock open bog and dome. The results are characterised by a low diversity, which vary significantly among habitat types, and include a high abundance of a few carabid species. Among the variables influencing carabid species richness and abundance were plant cover, pH and the conductivity of the Sphagnum mat water. Vascular plant cover was a key factor shaping carabid beetle assemblages in the slope and the dome, while electric conductivity affected carabid beetle assem- blage in the lagg. Whereas, the water level was the most important factor for the hollows. At the same time, peat bog specialists showed low sensitivity to the gradient of the analysed variables.

A total of 14,763 ground beetle individuals were entrapped. Material collection resulted into 92 Carabidae species, with the following six species dominating: Poecilus cupreus, Pterostichus melanarius, Pseudoophonus rufipes, Brachinus crepitans, Anchomenus dorsalis and Poecilus versicolor. Studied habitats differed significantly in the number of entrapped individuals, activity abundance as well as representation of the carabids according to their habitat preferences and ability to fly. However, no significant distinction was observed in the diversity, evenness neither dominance.

    Sand pit for Biodiversity at Cep II quarry Researcher: Klára Řehounková Research group: Petr Bogusch, David Boukal, Milan Boukal, Lukáš Čížek, František Grycz, Petr Hesoun, Kamila Lencová, Anna Lepšová, Jan Máca, Pavel Marhoul, Klára Řehounková, Jiří Řehounek, Lenka Schmidtmayerová, Robert Tropek Březen – září 2012 Abstract We compared the effect of restoration status (technical reclamation, spontaneous succession, disturbed succession) on the communities of vascular plants and assemblages of arthropods in CEP II sand pit (T řebo ňsko region, SW part of the Czech Republic) to evaluate their biodiversity and conservation potential. We also studied the experimental restoration of psammophytic grasslands to compare the impact of two near-natural restoration methods (spontaneous and assisted succession) to establishment of target species. The sand pit comprises stages of 2 to 30 years since site abandonment with moisture gradient from wet to dry habitats. In all studied groups, i.e. vascular pants and arthropods, open spontaneously revegetated sites continuously disturbed by intensive recreation activities hosted the largest proportion of target and endangered species which occurred less in the more closed spontaneously revegetated sites and which were nearly absent in technically reclaimed sites. Out results provide clear evidence that the mosaics of spontaneously established forests habitats and open sand habitats are the most valuable stands from the conservation point of view. It has been documented that no expensive technical reclamations are needed to restore post-mining sites which can serve as secondary habitats for many endangered and declining species. The experimental restoration of rare and endangered plant communities seems to be efficient and promising method for a future large-scale restoration projects in abandoned sand pits.

The duration of development, survivorship and adult size were compared for the larvae of Amara aenea reared in the first generation on pure diets of seeds ( Stellaria media, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Tussilago farfara, Plantago major, Urtica or dioica, Potentilla argentela), or a pure diet of yellow mealworms (Tenebrio molitor larvae), and on a mixed diet of seeds and mealworm larvae (T. molitor, S. media and C. bursa-pastoris). To ascertain any long-term effects of pure diets, the beetles were reared on the same pure diet for several generations, or on different pure diets in different generations. The hypothesis that the larvae are primary omnivorous was tested. The evidence that the larvae of A. aenea are primary omnivorous was obtained by revealing that the larvae reared on the mixed diet of insects and seeds survived better, and developed faster in larger adults than those reared on the pure diets of seeds or insects. A comparison was made of the number of species, species diversity and ecological traits of carabid beetle (Coleoptera: Cara- bidae) assemblages inhabiting Białowieża Primeval Forest (National Park) and adjacent managed Białowieża forest planted following clear-cutting of the primeval forest 80 years ago. Five pitfall traps were set in each plot in the primeval and managed forests in areas that differed in terms of humidity and soil fertility. The first hypothesis tested was that the type of stand (primeval vs. managed) has a greater effect on species diversity and life history traits of carabid assemblages than soil fertility or humidity. The second hypothesis tested was that a similar hierarchy of these factors affects the occurrence of particular species. It was demonstrated that the number of species in the primeval and managed forest sites did not differ significantly, but that mesic stands within these forests were more species-rich than boggy stands. However, the Shannon index for carabids was higher for the primeval stands. More species of carabids were recorded in the boggy primeval forest than boggy managed forest.
