2018 saw a number of important initiatives in the youth field at national, European and international level.

Developments both at home and abroad in 2018 signalled the way forward in forging and implementing youth policy, post 2020, while Aġenzija Żgħażagħ continued to strengthen and embed youth work and services for young people.

These initiatives included civil education seminars in secondary and post- secondary institutions aimed at increasing young people’s awareness of democratic processes particularly in light of lowering the voting age to 16; and Shifting Contexts, a revitalised exhibition for aspiring young artists following on the successful Divergent Thinkers project of recent years.

Web Portal The provision of reliable, relevant and up-to-date information for young people is a core function of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. The agency operates two web portals: its main webpage www.agenzijazghazagh. gov.mt and its youth information portal www. youthinfo.gov.mt. Both websites are regularly updated and provide users with information on events and opportunities relevant to young people. In 2018, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ offered 500 opportunities to young people and posted 1008 events on the portals.

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is also active on two Facebook pages - Agenzija Zghazagh and YIOSS - giving users real-time access to Youth Information Officers operating from the Youth Information One-Stop- Shop (YIOSS). Conferences and Seminars Aġenzija Żgħażagħ participated in the seminar eXploring Youth eParticipation which was held in , Estonia in 2018. The seminar focused on eparticipation and how young people can be more actively involved in decision making process. Some 60 youth workers, policy makers, young people and platform developers from across Europe came together to explore how online tools can enhance the active participation of young people in civic and democratic life. During the seminar Aġenzija Żgħażagħ led a workshop on misconceptions of eparticipation.

Agenizija Żgħażagħ also participated in the 2nd European Peer Learning Conference which was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia in September 2018. More than 70 young people, project partners, youth workers and young migrants participated and made recommendations on how youth work can be a driving force in supporting young migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
