David Radcliffe’s father, the late Jim Radcliffe, built the concrete block building at 3036 Gulf Breeze Parkway in 1970. Its everyday purpose was to serve the commu- nity and travelers as a convenience store and gas station. But in times of threatening weather, the sturdy structure served as the family’s evacuation building. It stood firm through more than four hurricanes and some other nasty storms. But Sunday night, around 7:30, straight line winds of about 100 miles an hour came roaring through as rain pounded down. The storm created such a disturbance it raised the roof -- and set it down behind the building that houses a string of businesses operating out of the Radcliffe property.
