BUILD2 CONNECTION QUICKLY Vol. 1 If you’re reading this right now there’s a very good chance that you are an educator!

That’s awesome! You Rock! Love your Face! Virtual High-5

Lee Iococca once said,

“In a completely rational society, the best of us would be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something less, because passing civilization on from one generation to the next ought to be the highest honor and highest responsibility of all time.”

Whether you’re a classroom teacher, School Counselor, or a Rockstar Administrator...we have an opportunity...or as Iococca says “a responsibility” to leave a seismic impact on the minds, hearts, and souls of the students we serve.

And although it’s essential that we teach to the head, (yes...Algebra does matter!) we’re leaving a lot on the table, if we don’t start by teaching to the .

“...The precursor to any content has to be connection.”

The Complete YouTube Guide to Building Connection Quickly (CYG for short) is a resource that will help you connect with your students in a language they understand.

Everything from music playlists, to funny YouTube clips, to inspiring messages (even a few personal videos from Joe). The CYG puts them all in one place so you don’t have to spend hours of your time searching.

Listen...If you’ve raised your hand to the call to work with youth, you are a “teacher!” you’re nothing short of amazing! Our hope is that the CYG allows you to make an even greater impact on the hearts/minds/souls of the those beautiful little faces that look back at you everyday!

Face love, Joe and Scotty

Some of the funny videos, music suggestions, and inspiring messages might not be suitable for all ages.

For instance, an inspiring video that talks about how a youth was able to escape the Sex Trafficking scene... although empowering and courageous….might open a whole can of worms for a group of 2nd graders that you’re not willing to dive into.

We have done our best to indicate which age(s) we believe each idea is most appropriate for, however, teacher discretion is advised.

YOU ROCK!

“Music is universal...I mean EVERYONE can tap their toes.”

Want to know what happens when “kids these days” hear songs they know?

They Sing! Outloud! Sometimes even to each other!

Every morning, we suggest queuing up 2-3 songs on your laptop or your phone (if you have the ability to connect to a bluetooth speaker). When the first kiddos walk into your classroom...hit play.

Now, you might be thinking one of 2 things...

“but nobody wants to listen to MY playlist. is not as hot as he once used to be.”

OR

“the damn music the kids these days listen to is full of swears!”

We have your back!

Below are 50 songs that are student tested and teacher approved!

“This fastest way to compel a student’s brain is to first compel a student’s heart.”

In 2016, I was hired to speak in a High School right outside of Minneapolis.

Like normal, as the students were walking in, the energy in the room was charged! Music playing, videos on the screen, and just tons of smiles from the kiddos.

However, on this occasion I decided to do something that I had never tried before. Weave in an inspirational video. (see the Everyone Dies but Nobody Lives link below)

I had no idea how they would . Cheesy? Lame? “This is the guy that I’m going to have to listen to for the next 45 mins?”

I closed one eye, crossed my fingers and hit the “forward” button on the PowerPoint remote…

20 sec’s later, I look up, and EVERY eye was fixed on that screen. When it was finished, they cheered.

Not only did they love it, they wanted more of it!

Contrary to popular belief, youth LOVE inspirational videos. Obviously they have to be done well, but assuming that’s the case, you’ll be able to lead a lengthy and healthy discussion on a myriad of topics afterwards.

The next page has a few that “kids these days“ will connect with...

Copyright © 2017 Epic on Purpose, LLC One more thought...

Here’s the bottom line…

At the beginning of every “lesson” we have a precious few minutes to Interrupt the “noise” in our students’ heads (and there is A LOT of noise) and to connect with them on a human level.

I believe if we do this, ”true learning” has a chance.

When you can engage your students in the first 5 min’s of class on something non-academic... • Engagement will improve • Hearts will be opened • And learning will increase! The CYG is a tool that will help you build connection quickly.

If it does it’s job...tell us If it doesn’t do it’s job...tell us If you have ideas on how we can do the job better (i.e. “you have to include this video”)...tell us [email protected] [email protected]

This is only Volume 1...more to come from here!

Thanks for saying “yes” to the most noble profession in the world.

Face love, Joe and Scotty!
