Leila Josefowicz Violinist Leila Josefowicz has won the hearts of audiences around the world with her honest, fresh approach to the repertoire and her dynamic virtuosity. Josefowicz made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1994, at age 16, with Si r and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. She has since appeared with many of the world's most prestigious , including the New York Ph il- harmonic, the , and the Royal Concertgebouw. A regular, close collab rator with today's leading composers, such as and , Josefowicz is a strong advocate of new music, a characteristic reflected in her diverse programs and her enthusi- asm for premiering new works.

In addition to her frequent concert performances, Josefowicz has appeared on numerous te levi- sion programs, among them The Tonight Show, Evening at Pops, CBS Sunday Morning, and Live from Lincoln Center: In 2002 her performance of John Adams·s Violin Concerto with the BBC Symphony was broadcast throughout Europe.

Josefowicz made her recording debut with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in 1994 for Philips Classics. Subsequent releases on that label include Solo, a disc of unaccompan ied violin works by Ba rt6k, Kreisler, Ysaye, Ernst, an d Paganini; Bohemian Rhap- sodies, a collection of virtuosic violin works with ; For the End of Time and Americana with John Novacek; and the Mendelssohn, Glazunov, and Prokofiev concertos with (he Montreal Sym- phony, Ch arles Dutoit conducting. Additional releases include a live recording of her performance of the Adams Violin Concerto on the BBC label and Adams·s Road Movies, which received a 2004 Grammy nomination, for Nonesuch. Her most recent CD releases, on the Warner Classics label, A are a recital disc featuring the works of Messiaen, Beethoven, Salonen, Ravel, and WI' [2005] and the Shostakovich Violin Concerto no. 1 [with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orches- tra, Sa kari Oramo conducti ng] and Violin Sonata [2006 ]. Born in Toronto, Leila Josefowicz is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with and Jascha Brodsky. She also studied chamber music with Felix Ga limir and participated in the Marlboro Music Festival for several summers. In 1994 she was awarde d the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Josefowicz currently performs on a del Gesu made in 1724.

John Novacek A much sought-after collaborative artist, pianist John Novacek has played with Yo-Yo Ma , Joshua Bell, Emmanuel Pahud , and Truls M0rk, among other renowned musicians. He has given numer- ous world premieres and has worked closely with composers John Adams, George Ro ch berg, John Williams, John Harbison, and John Zorn. He regularly tours the Americas, Europe, and Asia as recitalist, chamber musi cian , and concerto soloist, and has played on radio and television broadcasts worldwide.

The over 30 CDs Novacek has recorded encompass solo and chamber music by composers from Bach to Bart6k, as well as contemporary and original scores. His own compositions and arrange- ments have been performed by the Pacific Symphony, the 5 Browns, Concertante, Millen nium, the Harrington String Quartet, and the Three Tenors.

A winner of top prizes at the Leschetizky and Joanna Hodges competitions, Novacek studied piano with Peter Serkin, Bruce Sutherland, and Jakob Gimpel, and chamber music with Jamie Laredo and Felix Ga limir.
