My mother had a birthday cake plate that we used for everybody’s party. It was white with pink rose decals. We loved it. The fabulous feature was that it was also a music box. It would gently revolve and play the song Happy Birthday. It wouldn’t have felt like a birthday party without that cake plate! In the midst of the Covid- 19 pandemic, every celebration seemed to have something missing. The missing element was more significant than a pedestal plate. Sadly, we frequently missed having family and friends gather together for the celebration. However, with an abundance of creativity, ingenuity and determination, there were celebrations. Throughout this bulletin, we thought we’d share a few photos from joyous celebrations in the midst of rigid restrictions. This weekend, June 19 &20, we have numerous things to celebrate. We tip our hats in appreciation to the many men who are fathers or served as father figures. We are grateful for the love, support and guidance we have all received from the men in our lives. We are also celebrating that we can remove the white ribbons that have been used to rope off pews in the church and maintain socially distancing. The staff at the Parish Office thought it would be fun to combine the two celebrations, and put some unused ribbon to good use. Let’s celebrate all of the “Pops” and celebrate another step towards pandemic recovery. When you exit Mass this weekend, please take our little treat and join us in celebrating the many gifts in our lives! —Wendy F. Hinerman

A Prayer for our Fathers

Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender.

Amen.
