1. Tourist Arrivals

From 1st January 2021 to 21st July 2021, a total of 575,931 tourists arrived in the Maldives.

The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 136,955 arrivals, followed by India with 94,927 tourist arrivals. Germany stood third with 31,617 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Ukraine, USA, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Romania, and France. As the Maldives recovers from the COVID-19 situa�on, tourist arrivals to the Maldives gradually picks up and bounce back. On 16th July 2021 with a total of 555,006 tourists arrivals reached and exceeded the 2020 annual total of 555,494. By 21st July the total arrivals to the Maldives stood at 575,931, which was an increase of 50.1% compared with that of 2020. Arrivals is gaining momentum in July as COVID-19 restric�ons eased and borders reopened for South Asian markets. Weekly average increased from 2,515 during the 1st week to 4,102 by the 3rd week of the month.

While major markets such as Russia and India made full recovery with strong posi�ve growth rates, new markets emerged from the European Region and the Middle East. As of 21st July 2021, top ten source markets to the Maldives were, Russia with 23.8% shares, India with 16.5% shares, Germany with 5.5% shares, Ukraine with 4.4% shares, U.S.A with 4.1% shares, Kazakhstan with 3% shares, Saudi Arabia with 2.7%, United Kingdom with 2.7% shares, Romania with 2.1% shares and France with 2% shares.

Minister of Tourism meets with PATA CEO

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and the CEO of Pacific Asia Tourism Associa�on (PATA), Ms. Liz Or�guera discusses possible venues for PATA engagement in the Maldives tourism development and Maldives 50 Years Tourism celebra�ons. The mee�ng was held virtually on 15th July.

Ministry of Tourism Starts Random Inspec�on of Tourist Facili�es in Inhabited Islands Ministry of Tourism has started a special inspec�on program to audit the compliance of hotels and guesthouses to the Covid-19 management protocols set by the Health Protec�on Agency of the Maldives (HPA) and the Ministry of Tourism. Following this inspec�on, opera�ng license issued 4 Guest Houses were suspended and 3 were cau�oned in the Greater Male' Area. Maldives Nominated in Indian Ocean’s Pres�gious Categories at the 28th Annual World Travel Awards The World Travel Awards have nominated Maldives in 10 exci�ng ‘Indian Ocean’ categories at the 28th annual World Travel Awards - the most pres�gious honors programme in the global travel trade and tourism industry.
