September 25 th : : Five Days That Shook The WTO: Pt 1 - Seattle Prelude & Pt 2 - People Unite, Police Riot Seattle's 's Showdown in Seattle: Five Days that Shook the WTO: A five part series featuring on-the-ground, non-corporate perspective and in-depth analysis on world trade issues, popular resistance and the police repression that you won't find elsewhere in addition to incredible footage of police repression and popular resistance. Each half hour show is made up of segments shot and edited on location in downtown Seattle by an unprecedented collaboration of video producers from around the U.S. working under the umbrella of the Independent Media Center. The programs in this series were produced daily on location in Seattle and satellitecast across the U.S on each day of the WTO ministerial.

Two and a half hours of footage and analysis of the now legendary Seattle WTO protests. From the National Lawyers Guild to the Longshoreman's rally, Vandana Shiva to Jim Hightower, chemical weapons and rubber bullets, blockades and rioting. Its all here. A crucial piece of history, testimony, eye-witness reportage, analysis, and alternative media in the making. For anyone who was there, and everyone who wasn't.

In part 1, the issue of the WTO ministerial is laid out by Kevin Danaher of Global Exchange, Anuradha Mittal of Food First, and author Michael Parenti. Seattle warms up as thousands pour into the city for week-long rallies and demonstrations and speak to the question: why we are here? Included are acrobatic banner drops, a building takeover by housing activists and preparations by the Direct Action Network. Interviews with Jubilee 2000 participants, labor leaders, and congress people Maxine Waters and Paul Wellstone. TRT: 28 minutes.

In part 2, direct action blockades by activists delay the beginning of the WTO meetings and are met by Seattle police and barrages of chemical weapons and rubber bullets. Labor launches their big rally and march through Seattle with nearly every labor leader in attendance making their voices heard. A segment on how riot batons are manufactured with graphic illustration of their (mis)use by Seattle police. The show culminates with the Police blockade of the Independent Media Center as curfew falls over an uncertain Seattle. TRT: 28 minutes. October 2 nd : Showdown In Seattle Pt 3 - Occupied Seattle & Pt 4 - Unwilling Captives In part 3, the Steelworkers' rally/march is met with Police teargas when they venture too close to other protesters. Mary Reeves (National Lawyers Guild) and attorney Amy Kratz examine the legal issues posed by the Police abuse of civil liberties. A segment on Filipino Labor History with Dr. Carol Pagaduan (Araullo-BAYAN) and activist Liza Largoza- Maza Gabriela. A look at Indigenous issues and the WTO with Tom Gold Tooth (Indigenous Environmental Network), Ciprianna Jurapo (Center for Investigation and Worker Solidarity), and Carol Kalafatic (International Indian Treaty Council). A critical look at how the media has covered the protests and a revealing video verite walk with a WTO delegate.

Over 600 arrests and questionable legal processing are discussed in part 4, with Larry Hauser (King County council member) and Doug Hoenig (ACLU) and scenes from King County Jail. It includes interviews with Seattle locals and bystanders caught in the Police melee. The segment takes a look at the environmental hostages of WTO economic policy, with segments on the Global Free Logging Agreement and Genetic Engineering. A final segment on the international solidarity of farmers with French farmer Jose Bove, Ralph Nader, Jim Hightower, and Vandana Shiva. TRT: 28 minutes.

October 9 th : Free trade & the Threat of Global Warming seminar Global warming expert Anthony Marr of Heal Our Planet Earth will deliver a live presentation telling us how the global warming crisis is vastly worse than we've been told and how the next three years will decide whether all life on earth will be extinguished before the end of the century. Adam Weissman of Global Justice for Animals and the Environment will discuss the link between corporate globalization and global climate change. Freegan.info will co- sponsor this event and discuss how the climate crisis demonstrates the inherently unsustainable nature of global capitalism and the vital need to create alternatives.

October 16 th : Showdown in Seattle Part 5: What Democracy Looks Like & an Interview With Vandana Shiva on the WTO In the final part of Showdown in Seattle, the WTO ends in failure and celebration. Interviews with Victor Menotti (Int. Forum on Globalization), John Mwaniki (Zimbabwe delegate), Lori Wallach (Public Citizen), Scott Nova (Citizen Trade Campaign), Mr. Shinohara (Japanese delegate), and others. A look at the youth participation in the Seattle protest and what the WTO means to them. The Longshoreman rally closes labor's week of events. An ironic look at holiday shopping in Seattle during the siege. An inside look at the Independent Media Center and the process that made it work. The series closes with reflection on the week's events and inspiration for the mobilization ahead. We'll also show interviews with physicist, activist, and author Vandana Shiva. oCTOBER 23 RD : Breaking the Spell Plus an interview with Noam Chomsky on the WTO An hour-long look at the 1999 Seattle WTO protests and the anarchists (particularly those from Eugene) who traveled there to set a new precedent for militant confrontation. Rather than attempting to cover every situation at the WTO, Breaking the Spell has covers a few scenes film in depth. It is filmed in the thick of the action, including footage that aired nationally on 60 Minutes, it captures a moment when world history was up for grabs. Rather than attempting to cover every situation at the WTO, Breaking the Spell has several moving montage sequences combined with a few scenes that cover one or two situations in depth. [63 min.] We'll also show a half-hour interview with world-renowned US foreign policy scholar and critic Noam Chomsky on the WTO. Directions to 123 C0mmunity Space: 123 Community Space is located at 123 Tompkins Ave @ Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn, NY By train: G Train- Take the G to Myrtle-Willoughby, walk one block up Myrtle in the direction of the gas station, (as opposed to the playground). Make a right on Tompkins, which should be the first street you come to. J/M/Z Trains- Take J/M/Z to Myrtle Ave, then walk four blocks down Myrtle. You should go by Lewis Ave, Marcus Garvey and Throop Ave. before you get to Tompkins Ave, which you make a left on. Another option, since they're four sorta long blocks, is to take the B54 bus on Myrtle. By Bike: From Williamsburgh Bridge- Get on Broadway, which is on the other side of the bridge from where the bike path lets out. The safest way to do that is to loop around under the bridge. Make a left on Broadway and take it all the way to Myrtle, turn right on Myrtle and go four blocks to Tompkins Ave, Which you turn right on. 123 is the first storefront on your left hand side From Manhattan Bridge- Go Right on Sands St. (the street under the bridge both bike paths let you out at) until it ends at the NYPD Tow Pound, then make another right on Navy St., turn left under the BQE at Park Ave. Take Park Ave. all the way to Tompkins Ave., which comes after Nostrand and Marcy. Make a right and go to 123 Tompkins Ave, which is on the left hand side of the street after Myrtle. From Brooklyn Bridge- Get on Tillary (the major street you're on when you get off the bridge), turn left until Tillary turns into Park Ave. Take Park Ave. all the way to Tompkins Ave., which comes after Nostrand and Marcy. Make a right and go to 123 Tompkins Ave, which is on the left hand side of the street after Myrtle.
