I would also like to thank my family and my friends for being patient with me when I moved to Missouri for two years and then reappeared only to spend most of my time working on the mysterious thesis. And my sincerest gratitude to all the women who were kind enough to let me interview them about their reading habits, which can be a deeply personal arena. Finally, I would like to thank Britney Spears and all the other celebrities who live under heat lamps and magnifying glasses for providing me fertile ground for research. -

Time Zero 08-17-17
TIME ZERO Written by Carlo Carere and Erin Carere Carlo Carere [email protected] (323) 237-3340 Erin Muir [email protected] (323) 425-2197 INT. INDOOR BASKETBALL COURT - DAY The center circle bears the CIA SEAL. TWO AGENTS at play: CIA CHIEF AGENT LOU BLACK, 33, hardcore and threatening, skillfully scores a three-pointer. CIA AGENT ROUNDER, 43, slightly overweight, snatches up the ball and tries to dodge Lou. In vain. ROUNDER All I’m saying is, for every terrorist we take out, five more pop up. Clockwork. So what if we tried something else? Other ways. LOU Any other way would convey that we’re weak and they’re in charge. Lou steals the ball and scores again. Rounder scoffs. ROUNDER Most of these people go rotten because all they have to look forward to is a shitty future. What if we somehow offered them a better one? LOU Wouldn’t work, Rounder. These people, the only thing they understand? Violence. ROUNDER You know, Lou, sometimes you might find it useful to be open to other ideas, especially ones from more experienced colleagues. Rounder goes for a three-pointer. A FAIL. Lou takes the ball and bounces it between ROUNDER’S LEGS. Rounder trips as Lou scores. Rounder, on the floor, acknowledges defeat. LOU More experienced, huh? How’s that working out for ya, Roundhouse? Lou smiles and helps Rounder up. LOU’S TELEPHONE rings. LOU Go ahead, Director. 2. Alarm floods his face. EXT. HOSPITAL - DAY A huge building with a sign: CHARITY HOSPITAL. A mob of POLICE, MEDIA and alarmed BYSTANDERS gather in front. -
Heart Care Handbook ABOUT THIS HANDBOOK
Patient Education intermountainhealthcare.org/heart Heart Care Handbook ABOUT THIS HANDBOOK This handbook won’t teach you everything you need or want to know about heart disease and heart-healthy living. But it will give you a good start. To write this book, we consulted local experts as well as the latest guidelines and recommendations of national organiza- tions such as the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). All of these resources are listed in Chapter 10, along with cardiac rehab programs, books, and other trusted websites to help you learn more. You don’t need to read this book from front to back. Use the Table of Contents in the front of the book (or on the first page of each chapter) to help you find what you need. Use the book for a long-term reference. Make notes in the margins, highlight important informa- tion, and add notes from your healthcare providers and cardiac rehabilitation staff. If you have questions, talk with your healthcare providers. And don’t be afraid to accept help from concerned loved ones and friends. With support and treatment, you can manage your disease and lead a healthier and happier life. Writing to Truth in a Teaching Life Charles Martin
MOURNING TO JOY: WRITING TO TRUTH IN A TEACHING LIFE CHARLES MARTIN LEGRANDE EASTLY B.A., University of Alberta, 1970 PD/AD, University of Alberta, 1971 B.G.S., Athabasca University, 1984 Dip.Ed., University of Calgary, 1991 Dip.C.S., Regent College, 1993 A One-Credit Project Submitted to the Faculty of Education of the University of Lethbridge in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree MASTER OF EDUCATION LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA July, 1999 Abstract This project is about diversity. It shows diversity by telling stories. The stories are those of teachers and students, woven together into a single narrative to give some expression to the diversity, variety, and richness that exists in most teaching envirorunents, inside and outside of schools, in teachers and in students. The stories are woven together to illustrate a central theme, a teacher and his students working to come to terms with themselves, with their uniqueness and with each other. It is about moving from fear to acceptance, from ignorance to imderstanding, from hiding to tmth, from mourning about who and what we are to accepting ourselves with joy. It is about finding the integrity to be, the integrity to let be, and the integrity to teach. Topics addressed or illustrated in these stories include addiction, suicide, physical and emotional abuse, sexual orientation, narrative writing (therapy), poetry therapy, joumal writing, healing and faith. The themes and stories presented through narrative are further Ulustrated and strengthened by quotations, poems and joumal entries. m Dedication To Cynthia, for getting me started. To Leah, for getting me through. -

Even if she was taken off the eventual commercial version of the single in favor of Erykah Badu, Scott refused to stay behind the scenes. And come Y2K, we all got to bear witness to Scott in her full, resplendent glory on her debut. -

2011 Edition 1 the Morpheus Literary Publication
The Morpheus 2011 Edition 1 The Morpheus Literary Publication 2011 Edition Sponsored by the Heidelberg University English Department 2 About this publication Welcome to the Fall 2011 edition of the Morpheus, Heidelberg University’s student writing magazine. This year’s issue follows the precedents we established in 2007: 1) We publish the magazine electronically, which allows us to share the best writing at Heidelberg with a wide readership. 2) The magazine and the writing contest are managed by members of English 492, Senior Seminar in Writing, as an experiential learning component of that course. 3) The publication combines the winning entries of the Morpheus writing contest with the major writing projects from English 492. Please note that Morpheus staff members were eligible to submit entries for the writing contest; a faculty panel judged the entries, which had identifying information removed before judging took place. Staff members played no role in the judging of the contest entries. We hope you enjoy this year’s Morpheus! HANDBOOK to HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS Ken Keyes Jr
HANDBOOK TO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS Ken Keyes Jr. Foreword Millions of years ago when our animal ancestors had to survive in the jungle, it was necessary to have an instantly effective fight or flight mechanism. When a tiger was about to spring, an automatic emotional response was a life saver. A nervous shock was needed to squirt adrenalin into the blood so that muscles became jet powered. Emotional alarms were needed to command full attention. When a tiger was ready to jump, there was no time to admire the beautiful sunset. As a jungle survival mechanism, our animal ancestors were programmed for automatic duality -- automatic feelings of otherness, threat, and paranoia. Survival required instant domination of consciousness to meet the perils of the jungle. We are the pioneers in the evolution of human consciousness. It was only about 10,000 years ago that our ancestors built the first cities. As civilization grew, survival no longer depended on the instant fight or flight of the jungle. Survival and happiness now depend on tuning in to the overall situation involving ourselves, the people around us, and the total environment of the here and now. Perceptiveness, wisdom, and oneness are now the ingredients of effective and happy living. But our biocomputers are still programmed for jungle fight or flight -- for a fast release of adrenalin into the blood stream, and for rapid heartbeat -- for automatic anger and fear. In our social interactions, our consciousness magnifies molehills and makes them into mountains -- and this constant distortion destroys our energy, our insight, and our ability to love. -

Humour As Resistance a Brief Analysis of the Gezi Park Protest
PROTEST AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS 2 PROTEST AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS David and Toktamış (eds.) In May and June of 2013, an encampment protesting against the privatisation of an historic public space in a commercially vibrant square of Istanbul began as a typical urban social movement for individual rights and freedoms, with no particular political affiliation. Thanks to the brutality of the police and the Turkish Prime Minister’s reactions, the mobilisation soon snowballed into mass opposition to the regime. This volume puts together an excellent collection of field research, qualitative and quantitative data, theoretical approaches and international comparative contributions in order to reveal the significance of the Gezi Protests in Turkish society and contemporary history. It uses a broad spectrum of disciplines, including Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Psychology, International Relations, and Political Economy. Isabel David is Assistant Professor at the School of Social and Political Sciences, Universidade de Lisboa (University of Lisbon) , Portugal. Her research focuses on Turkish politics, Turkey-EU relations and collective ‘Everywhere Taksim’ action. She is currently working on an article on AKP rule for the Journal of Contemporary European Studies. Kumru F. Toktamış, PhD, is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Depart- ment of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Her research focuses on State Formation, Nationalism, Ethnicity and Collective Action. In 2014, she published a book chapter on ‘Tribes and Democratization/De-Democratization in Libya’.
