Because of this, you will see a few changes in the Voters’ Pamphlet, receive a ballot that looks a little different and find answers to your questions, quite literally at your fingertips, by pointing your browser to www.oregonvotes.org. First, the ballot. The Oregon Legislature passed legislation in 2009 implementing a new process for political parties to nominate candidates. It’s called cross nomination and it allows candidates to receive the nomination of up to three parties and to have those nominations printed on the ballot. The purpose behind this change is to engage more voters on all ends of the political spectrum. Due to space restrictions on the ballot and the fact that candidates can receive up to three party nomi- nations, the party names will be abbreviated on the ballot. Every ballot will have a key to the party abbreviations. The parties are abbreviated as follows: Constitution Party – CON Democratic Party of Oregon – DEM Independent Party of Oregon – IND Libertarian Party of Oregon – LBT Nonaffiliated – NAV Pacific Green Party – PGP Oregon Progressive Party – PRO The Oregon Republican Party – REP Working Families Party of Oregon – WFP Second, the Voters’ Pamphlet.
