Meet Mrs. Hermanson

Mrs. Hermanson is a third grade teacher at Fairview School.

Q: How old are your kids?

A: Drew is 21 and Noah is 18.

Q: How long have you been a teacher?

A: I have been teaching for over 24 years. Q: How old is Mr. Hermanson?

A: Mr. Hermanson is 50 years old.

Q: How long have you lived with Mr. Hermanson?

A: We have been married for 25 years.

QHow long have you been a 4th grade teacher and how long have you been a 3rd grade teacher?

A: I taught 4th grade at Fairview for 7 years, and I've taught 3rd grade for 13 years. Before I came to Fairview, I taught 6th grade for 3 years.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated annually on M arch 17. It is the death date of Saint Patrick. St. Patrick's Day is an official Christian

feast day that was made in the early 17th century. It is observed by the Church of Ireland, the Catholic church, Anglican Communion,

the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. This days reminds us of Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christians in Ireland, and in

general, celebrating the heritage and culture of the Irish. Celebrations usually include parades and festivals, shamrocks, and wearing green

clothes. Some fun facts: St. Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and M ontserrat. It is also celebrated by the Irish diaspora all around the world, especially in Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and

Japan. The first St. Patrick's Day festival was held on M arch 17, 1996. It was a three day event, then it became a four day event.

Valentine's Day Crafts

Do you ever wonder what to make for a friend for Valentine's Day? Here are some ideas. The first idea is a necklace. You can make it out of rainbow loom or beads. The next idea is a bookmark. You will need ribbon, paper, and a heart puncher. The last idea is a pom pon monster. You will need 1 pom pon, one or two pairs of eyes, a heart, wire, and mine hearts.

We found our ideas on Yahoo Valentine's Day Crafts. Even though it is past Valentines' Day, it's never too late to think about next year!

1. Apple pie with vanilla ice cream because it tastes so good with the melting ice cream around the apples.

2. BLT's because in the summer some people grow tomatoes and lettuce for yummy BLT's.

3. Pork because most adults love port for yummy dinners and lunches.

4. Mac "n Cheese because it is so yummy and tasty.

5. Steak because it has a delicious flavor.

6. Ice Cream because it is so good and refreshing in the summer time.

7. Pizza because it has a yummy combination of cheese and spicy sausage or pepperoni.

8. Watermelon because it is cool and juicy to taste.

9. Chili because most people use their own special recipe.

10. Barbecued ribs when cooked properly, the meat is so tender that it falls off the bone.

1. Pizza comes with many different toppings.

2. Candy (chocolate) because is is sugary.

3. Tacos because you can make many combinations.

Baby Pandas are Born at the Lincoln Park Zoo

Did you hear the news? Baby pandas have arrived at the Lincoln Park Zoo!

One baby panda is a girl, and one is a boy. The girl's name is Leafa, and the boy's name is Phoenix. They were born in the Kovier Lion House.

What Kind of Pets do People Like?

We surveyed the members of Journalism Club and here are the results we got:

Cats: 3

Turtles: 3

Dogs: 2

Hamsters: 2

Parrots: 1

Horse: 1

Most people preferred cats and turtles as pets, and the least preferred pets were parrots and horses.

1. Tigers are the largest cats of the cat family.

2. The tiger is capable of killing animals more than twice its size.

3. Cats can sense earthquakes! The pads of the cat's feet are very sensitive, so some cats behave strangely before an

earthquake.

4. Irish wolfhounds are the biggest dogs in the land and are capable of understanding up to 250 words!

5. Some wolves only live in the United States in forests and other areas. They can consume up to 20 pounds of food.

6. When horses sleep, they would rather stand up, then lie down. Horses run shortly after they are born.

7. Cheetahs live about 12 years. Cheetahs can purr, but they cannot roar.

8. Penguins catch their food underwater. They raise their babies on land.

9. Foxes prefer to not live in packs. Compared to wolves or jackals, foxes are smaller in size.

10. Racoons are probably the most recognized animal in the United States. Raccoons are generally 2 feet longer from head to tail.
