Note on Interviews

Te interviews fell into two distinct categories. A number of interviews were conducted with recent participants in the policy-making process who dis- cussed their recollections on the basis of anonymity and confdentiality. Tese interviews have been anonymised and these interviewees are iden- tifed only by pseudonym (for example, Interviewee A): the data has been kept confdential and is being used only for the purpose of this study. Interviews were also conducted with retired politicians, civil servants and aca- demics, where it was not possible to achieve anonymity: in this instance no guarantee of anonymity was given. All interviews were conducted in accord- ance with the terms of the approval granted for this research project by the School of Education Research Ethics Committee, Trinity College Dublin.
