16 WHEREAS, Scott's youth hockey teams included the Boys & Girls Club, Mat-Su Eagles, Anchorage Northstars, 17 and Alaska Allstars - with Scott winning a National Championship as a Midget in 1996; and

18 WHEREAS, Scott played hockey for the East High Thunderbirds, averaging more than 3 points per game, 19 leading the State in points, being named Player of the Year both his freshman and sophomore years, and having his 20 jersey retired; and

21 WHEREAS, Scott continued playing hockey with the South of the British Columbia Junior A 22 Hockey League, placing second in team points, being named to the All Rookie Team, and making the Allstar Game; and

23 WHEREAS, Scott was also chosen to play for the USA World Junior Team in the World Junior Hockey 24 Championships; and

25 WHEREAS, Scott also played for the Tr-CitY Americans of the , placing second in team 26 points and twice being named WHL Player of the Month; and

27 WHEREAS, in 1998, Scott was drafted in the first round by the and in his rookie season in 28 the National Hockey League: 29 . Scott became the first Hispanic to play in the NHL; 30 . Scott was the only New Jersey Devil to play in every game; 31 . Scott led all rookies in points and was named to the NHL All Rookie Team; 32 . Scott was named to the NHL Allstar Team; 33 . Scott won the Calder Trophy, designating Scott as the NHL Rookie of the Year; and 34 .
