Nomination papers must be delivered at Stuart Court, Salisbury Road, Romsey SO51 6DJ on any day after the date of this notice, but not later than noon on the 6th day of November 2018. 3. James Young, whose pony Brock Brocade was killed by a hit-and-run driver, said: "This is the most worrying time of year for every family making the effort to keep the forest properly grazed. "No pony deserves to be left all night to suffer like Brocade in an unreported hit-and-run. "I really hope that people will learn to take a little more care, and save other commoners from experiencing such a pointless and awful loss." When the clocks change in October, and people have to drive home in the dark, there is a much higher risk of hitting one of the free-roaming animals. 56 animals were killed on New Forest roads in 2017 49 animals were killed between January and August 2018 Most of the accidents are caused by local people on regular trips, on four main routes: • Lymington – Beaulieu – Dibden Purlieu • Brockenhurst – Sway • Burley – Picket Post • Cadnam – Godshill Sue Westwood, Clerk to the Verderers said “It’s really important to not only drive slowly past any animals that drives see close to the road, but also to move over and leave sufficient room as they pass, so that if the animal does step into the road, they can avoid a collision.     Consultation Statement New Forest National Park Local Plan 2016 - 2036 May 2018 1. Introduction 1.1 The New Forest National Park Authority is undertaking a review of the local planning policies covering the National Park – currently contained within the Core Strategy & Development Management Policies DPD (adopted December 2010).     PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS. By O. G. S. CRAWFORD, F.B.A., F.S.A. HE honour you have done me by electing me as your President for the forthcoming year is one that I appreciate highly and Tfor which I thank you. Like our retiring President, I am a Hampshire man, and we both have a particular affection for the lower reaches of the Test valley, where we live. I shall try, during my term of office, to emulate him and to be present at as many of our Field Meetings as possible ; and I hope that we shall often see him there too. These peregrinations through the country are, in my considered opinion,, of very great value not only to ourselves, but to the County and country. They show people that there are quite a number of people who obviously take an interest in things old and things beautiful, in the physical structure of our country and the earlier forms of life that inhabited it, in the birds and plants that now live here. Without such occasional demonstrations their existence is in danger of being overlooked by those whose eyes have not been opened to the interesting tilings that swarm around them, if they only knew it. To take antiquities only : In the course of my own field-work I have come across several instances outside Hampshire where people have refrained from damage or destruction not from any interest of their own, but simply because they know that others are interested in them; and because they are decent people they respect that interest, even without sharing it.

    240 HAMPSHIRE FIELD CLUB THE STREAMS OF THE NEW FOREST: A STUDY IN DRAINAGE EVOLUTION By C. E. EVERARD, M.SC. Introduction. HE area to be discussed in this paper is somewhat larger than that ordinarily known as the New Forest. It extends from Tthe Solent northwards to the River Blackwater, and from the Avon eastwards to Southampton Water. The superficial gravel deposits of the New Forest have been the subject of much detailed morphological analysis in recent years {1, 2, 4, 5), and it has been shown that two ' flights' of gravel terraces exist (Figure 2), the larger descending southwards from. the summit area of Black Bush Plain (420ft. O.D.) towards the Solent, and the other flanking the Avon valley. These terraces mark the main pauses in the uplift of the area from its low level in the late Pliocene and since that time the landforms and drainage pattern have been evolving concurrently, under the influence of the intermittently-falling base-level. The gravel-terrace stages make it possible to trace the former courses of the Rivers Avon and ' Solent n across the New Forest and also the shore-lines of the estuaries which partly replaced them in the southern part of the area. The present New Forest streams are the much modified descendants of the tributaries of these major drainage channels. * The tributaries were, in many cases, too small to produce terraces, but two lines of evidence may be followed in attempting to re­ construct their former courses. Firstly, the development of the tributaries is intimately connected with that of the major arteries, and much is already known about the evolution of the latter.

    Exbury Egg Nearly stepping on a bird’s nest wouldn’t inspire most of us to build an egg-shaped structure. But then, not all of us are like artist Stephen Turner, who specialises in artistic explorations of envi- ronmental settings. This interest means he spends long periods of time in odd, abandoned places, noting changes in the complex relationship between human-made and natural environments. Why an egg? Turner’s bird’s nest experience led to a theoretical project instigated by arts Wendy Perring charity Space Placemaking and Urban Design Group (SPUD), which encour- PAD Studio, next aged a collaborative process between artists, architects and engineers to to the Egg design a temporary workspace within the New Forest National Park. The egg concept, symbolising fragility and the cycle of life, fired the imagi- nation of many. Following an exhibition where Turner had collaborated with architect PAD Studio to design and develop the idea, SPUD were keen to translate the paper project into an actual building. ‘The plan was for Stephen [Turner] to live in the egg for 365 days, as he wanted to experience all four seasons,’ says Wendy Perring, Managing Director at PAD Studio. ‘We worked closely with Stephen to define what he would need as a home and studio.’ Turner was very interested in the effects of climate change on the New Forest and the nearby Lymington Salt Marshes in Hampshire. List of locations (and maps) were sent out with October’s edition of the Bramshaw Telegraph. They can also be found here and here #Add3Minutes Drivers are being urged to just #Add3Minutes as the nights draw in to make journeys safer. When the clocks change in October, and people have to drive home in the dark, there is a much higher risk of hitting one of the free-roaming animals. 56 animals were killed on New Forest roads in 2017 63 animals were killed on New Forest roads in 2018 Most of the accidents are caused by local people on regular trips, on four main routes: • Lymington – Beaulieu – Dibden Purlieu • Brockenhurst – Sway • Burley – Picket Post • Cadnam – Godshill Sue Westwood, Clerk to the Verderers said “Driver should be aware that they are very likely to encounter animals on the Forest’s roads, day and night. Animals don’t have road sense so please help avoid accidents by driving slowly and carefully.” Failing to report an accident with a commoner’s animal can lead to prosecution. The Verderers offer a reward of up to £5,000 payable to anyone providing information which leads to the successful prosecution of a driver responsible for a hit and run accident.
