Recognising SAF Personnel

The Armed Forces (SAF) is promoting 499 officers, 147 warrant officers and 74 military experts (ME) from the Army, Navy and Air Force to the next higher rank this year. They received their certificates of promotion at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this evening. The promoted personnel include regulars and Operationally-Ready National Servicemen.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean presented certificates to personnel promoted to the ranks of Senior Warrant Officer, ME7 as well as Colonel and above. Chief of Defence Force Major-General (MG) presented certificates to personnel promoted to the ranks of Master Warrant Officer, ME6, Lieutenant Colonel and Senior Lieutenant Colonel. Also present at the ceremony were spouses of the promoted personnel, as well as senior MINDEF officials and SAF officers.

Among the officers promoted this year are MG Neo himself, who is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General, and Chief of Army Brigadier-General and Chief of Air Force Brigadier-General who are both promoted to the rank of Major- General. In addition, six Colonels are promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and Rear- Admiral (one star).

The SAF promotion exercise is part of an ongoing effort to recognise, reward and groom officers, warrant officers and MEs who have performed well and demonstrated potential to contribute more to the SAF. All promotions will take effect from 1 Jul 2010.
