Mario Kart 64 Teams - 3-4 players per team Alternates - Once a player has started to play, alternate cannot be substituted Format - Heat-based circuit relay Equipment: 1. Nintendo 64 with controllers 2. Mario Kart 64 game 3. 16 oz. round-bottom plastic cups Rules: 1) The referee is the person appointed to control a match. Their interpretation of the rules stands. They will judge each game consistently throughout the competition. 2) Each team consists of 3-4 players. All players must race at least one race throughout the competition. 3) One full carbonated beverage per race Game Play: 1) Teams are randomly drawn into groups of 4. 2) Team draw order determines character choice order (numbers 1-4 will be drawn out of a cup. Number 1 will have first pick of character, 2nd team receives second pick, and so on). 3) Teams will compete in Versus Mode on 150cc. 4) 8 TEAMS. The number of rounds will be predetermined based on the number of teams in the tournament. QUARTERS: 2 Rounds in the Mushroom Cup. SEMIS: 1 Round in the Flower Cup. The Finals will be played on the Special Cup. 5) Each Round will consist of racing all four courses in each Cup. 6) Teams will compete in a relay format. One player races one lap. Once a player has reached the start/finish line, they will then come to a complete stop. The player will 1 of 3 Mario Kart 64 then leave their seat and pass the controller to their teammate. The new player can begin racing once they have received the controller and sat in the seat. 7) NO DRINKING AND DRIVING: Each player may only drink during the time of their lap. They may drink at any point during their lap (after first taking the controller). Each player must come to a full stop before drinking. Drinks will be placed on a table, and must remain there throughout the race. (eg take your controller, drink, then drive. Or take the controller, race, then drink. OR drink in the middle, but you cannot be driving, and the kart must be at a complete stop at that point, until you can continue driving.) 8) When a player goes to drink, their controller may NOT be in their hand. It must be placed on the table. Once a player has finished their beverage, they must turn over their cup. A player may not hand over the controller or finish the race until their cup is empty and flipped over. 9) Any drinking violations will result in a 10-second penalty. The player must come to a complete stop. The player must not touch their controller or drink during this penalty time. Once the penalty has been assessed, the player may continue racing. 10) Players are NOT allowed to use any major shortcuts in the race. In-game designed shortcuts are allowed (ex.: Koopa Troopa Beach). Glitch/Cheat shortcuts that significantly skip portions of the tracks are not allowed (ex.: Wario Stadium & Rainbow Road). They must race the full track in order to be considered completing a lap. 11) Any shortcut violations will result in a penalty. The player must come to a complete stop. The player may not touch their controller or drink, until the player in last place has passed the player. Then a 30-second penalty will be added. Once the penalty has been assessed, the player may continue racing. 12) QUARTERS: Upon the completion of the race in each of the 4 rounds, the first 2 teams will move on. 13) SEMIS: Upon the completion of the race in both rounds, the first 2 teams will move on. 14) Final Round will consist of 4 teams: 2 of 3 Mario Kart 64 a) Will be played on the Special Cup. b) Teams again will be drawn for character choice order. c) The teams will race all four courses of the Special Cup. d) Team medal order will be determined by overall point order from all 4 races. i) If a tie occurs, only the teams in a tie will rerace one lap on Rainbow road. ii) The first team to complete on lap will be crowned the winner 3 of 3 .
