This brochure explains the various ways in which the Seven can be supplied, from the ever popular Classic to the world beating Superlight R500. A unique aspect of Caterham ownership is the ability to tailor-make your vehicle to suit your specific needs. Please take time to study the various options and understand the special features. Caterham call their most popular specification Component Build, which is a system developed over 40 years to give the maximum customer satisfaction. All difficult and safety related parts are factory fitted and to help you, an assembly guide, build advice telephone line and a post build inspection service are provided free of charge. Caterham have been associated with , and the Seven in particular, since 1959. The company became the sole distributor for the Seven in 1967 and in 1973 bought the exclusive production rights from , founder of Lotus Cars. Now in production for over 40 years, the Seven has been the subject of continuous development and improvement. It is a car with timeless, classic appeal, yet technically it is more than a match for today’s performance cars. Dynamically, it still provides the standards by which other cars are judged. The Caterham Vauxhall Classic represents one of the best value sports cars on the market. The traditional appeal of our live axle design has not diminished with time, offering a light- weight package with outstanding performance. Like all our models, the ‘Classic’ has never rested on its laurels and has always been subject to ongoing development, with all aspects of the car designed to ensure the benefits of modern engineering. The 1.6 Vauxhall unit produces 100bhp from its 8-valve SOHC design running on twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors. With a healthy 107 lbft of torque the performance of the 1.6 Classic is impressive, but for those customers wanting a little extra, we are now able to offer our unique 1.8 Supersport tuning package that increases power to 120bhp with torque rated at 122 lbft. The Classic can accomodate either of our five or six speed gearbox options. The standard five speed along with the ‘live’ rear axle are supplied as reconditioned units, which means that this model is registered onto a ‘Q’ prefix. As an alternative, customers can purchase a new five speed gearbox, which along with the six speed option would provide a current prefix when the vehicle is registered.
