Fortunately, you do NOT need to be an astrologer or know what a "Moon nakshatra" is to read this report! If you are an astrologer or student of astrology, the astrological details are described as well, and you can easily skip over these technical astrological details if they do not interest you. In this report there are quotations from the following books: "Yogas In Astrology" by Dr. K S Charak, 1999, published by UMA Publications, 72 Gagan Vihat, Delhi-110 051, India "Three Hundred Important Combinations" by B.V. Raman, 1997, published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Private Limited, Delhi, India "Constellational Astrology" by Robert De Luce, 1963, De Luce Publishing Company, Los Angeles, CA, USA If you are interested in learning Vedic astrology, we highly recommend these 3 books. Only small sections that are relevant to a particular astrological influence have been quoted from these books. These works are based on the ancient Vedic writings (the Vedas) and have been elaborated upon and explained in terms that make sense for modern people. "Constellational Astrology" is no longer in print, but the other two books can be purchased. Important: The interpretations in this report are based on the ancient system of Vedic astrology. Many of these interpretations are fatalistic and some are even extreme, frightening, and are now known to be not literally correct! You should interpret the influences described here in more psychological and general terms. Do not take the statements given in this report literally! The extreme and definite interpretations in this report should be viewed as indicating psychological tendencies rather than absolute facts. Also, modern astrologers believe that there is a negative and a positive potential in any astrological influence. Even the most difficult astrological influence can be handled successfully, and an astrological influence that might seem beneficial can be mishandled. Astrologers do claim to be able to describe the important issues and themes in your life, but what is good or bad is mostly up to you. Section I: The Moons Nakshatras and Rasi Nakshatras are also known as lunar mansions. There are 27 nakshatras, and each one has a length of 13 degrees and 20 minutes. The nakshatra position of the Moon is very important in Vedic astrology. Given below is the meaning of the Moon's nakshatra and Moon sign (rasi) in your chart. Moon in 20th nakshatra: The Moon is in Purva Ashadha, the twentieth nakshatra (13 deg 20 min to 26 deg 40 min of Sagittarius). You give a great deal of attention to your friends and loved ones, are careful in picking friends, and it is very likely that your marriage is a happy one. Moon is in Sagittarius rasi: According to De Luce: "The native will have a long face and neck (philosophically inclined and aspiring); will inherit property from the father (will learn from his teachers); will be liberal in his gifts; will be a poet (inspired); will be powerful and skilled in speech (ability to communicate); will have large teeth, ears, lips and nose (capable of assimilating and communicating ideas); will engage in numerous works and be a good mechanic (skillful in whatever he undertakes). His shoulders will not be prominent (avoids carrying his share of the burden); will have disfigured nails and strong arms (nervous disposition and military leadership); will have a profound and inventive intellect; will be familiar with the laws and codes of government; will hate his kinsmen (has a sense of superiority in what he knows); cannot be subdued by force, but yields to kind treatment." Section II: Yogas You may be familiar with the word "yoga" as referring to various physical exercises and postures. The word "yoga" has a very different meaning as used in astrology and does not refer to physical exercises. The word yoga literally means "combination". This section of your report describes important combinations of astrological influences that produce specific results. Sunapha Yoga Sunapha yoga occurs when any planet other than the Sun is in the 2nd house from the Moon. According to Raman: "Self-earned property, king, ruler or his equal, intelligent, wealthy and good reputation." Sunapha Yoga, with Saturn In your chart Saturn is in the 2nd house from the Moon and the Sun is not in the 2nd house from the Moon. According to Charak: "Clever and skillful, held in esteem by the rural and the urban folk alike, wealthy and contented. The native lives on goat's milk. This combination is not favorable for the mother of the native." Adhi Yoga Adhi yoga occurs when Mercury, Venus or Jupiter is in the 6th, 7th or 8th house from the Moon. According to Raman: "The person will be polite and trustworthy, will have an enjoyable and happy life, surrounded by luxuries and affluence, will inflict defeats on his enemies, will be healthy and will live long." Sasa Yoga Shasha yoga occurs when Saturn is in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) house and is in its own (Capricorn or Aquarius) or exaltation sign (Libra). According to Raman: "One born in this yoga will command good servants. His character will be questionable. He will be head of a village or a town or even be a King, will covet other's riches and will be wicked in disposition." According to Charak: "Brave and cruel, one born in this yoga is of medium height, slim waist and high-set teeth. He has beautiful legs and has a fast but regular gait. His complexion is dark. He frequents jungles, mountains, forts and other odd places. He has roving eyes and a desire for the possessions of others. The Shasha yoga native is devoted to his mother. He looks after his guest with devotion. He is the commander of an army or a leader of a group or a village or a town. He is competent, wealthy and learned, and is keen to point out the faults of others. Excessively fond of the sexual act, he associates with women not his own. He is adept in metallurgy and the science of chemicals. He suffers physical ailments, and lives up to an age of seventy years." Remember that ancient Vedic interpretations are not literally true! Any astrological influence can also be positive. In your chart the ruler of the sign in which the ruler of the house occupied by the ruler of Ascendant is in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) or trikona (1st, 5th or 9th) house. Parijatha Yoga Parijatha yoga occurs when the ruler of the sign of the ruler of the house occupied by the ruler of Ascendant, OR the ruler of the navamsa sign of the ruler of the rasi sign of the ruler of the Ascendant, is in (a) a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) house, or (b) a trikona (1st, 5th or 9th) house, or (c) his own or (d) exaltation sign. According to Raman: "Happy in the middle and last part of life, receiving the homage of Kings and Rulers, fond of wars, possessing elephants and horses, conforming to traditions and customs, generous and famous." According to Charak: "A king happy in the middle and the concluding portions of his life, respectable, powerful, kind-hearted, and fond of battle." In your chart the ruler of the sign in which the ruler of the house occupied by the ruler of Ascendant is in his own or exaltation sign. In your chart the ruler of the navamsa sign of the ruler of the rasi of the ruler of the Ascendant is in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) or trikona (1st, 5th or 9th) house. In your chart the ruler of the navamsa occupied by the ruler of the rasi in which the ruler of ascendant, is his own or exaltation sign. Krisanga Yoga Krisanga yoga occurs when (a) Ruler of the Ascendant is in a dry sign (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo or Sagittarius), or (b) Ruler of the Ascendant is in the sign owned by a dry planet (Sun, Mars or Saturn), or (c) A malefic is in the 1st house, and the ruler of the navamsa of the 1st house is a dry planet (Sun, Mars or Saturn). According to Raman: "The subject will have an emaciated or lean body and will suffer from bodily pains." Remember that ancient Vedic interpretations are not literally true! Any astrological influence can also be positive. In your chart the ruler of the Ascendant is in a dry sign (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo or Sagittarius). Dehasthoulya Yoga Dehasthoulya yoga occurs when (a) Ruler of the Ascendant and the ruler of the navamsa sign of the ruler of the Ascendant are in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces, or (b) Jupiter is in the 1st house, or (c) Jupiter is in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces, and Jupiter aspects the Ascendant, or (d) Ascendant is in a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces), and a benefic is in the 1st house, or (e) Ruler of the Ascendant is a water planet (Moon or Venus).

Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in March, 1971. He lived in India for 6 years till 1983, studying Jyotish and has received certificate of commendation for spreading Hindu astrology in the USA, from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in 1999. Web site: http://www.robertkoch.com n the first Canto of the great Vedic Purana Srimad Bhagavatam, there is a very interesting and instructional conversation that took place between a bull personifying I Dharma, or religion, and Bhumi, the mother earth in the form of a cow. The bull was standing on one leg, suggesting that that one out of four pillars of religious principles (represented by each leg of Dharma, the bull) was still existing, and that in itself was faltering with the progress of Kali-yuga. The four legs of the Dharma are truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, and austerity. If most or all of these legs of Dharma are broken, or if 3 out of 4 Dharmic principles exist very rarely, in human society, then we can be confident that Kali-yuga – the age of quarrel and darkness – is well upon us. Given that there are some rare souls existing who speak and live the Supreme Absolute Truth, as is found in various Vedic literatures, the remaining leg of truthfulness still exists. Such persons are characterized by complete self-control, or the ability to detach themselves from the relative world of the senses and the objects of sense pleasure.

  • Introduction and Background to the Article on the Future of Yoga in the West
Introduction and background to the article on the future of Yoga in the West **updated version from 03.12.16, since first publishing** I began this project (which is now much more of a process) on a (seemingly) simple request to write an article on the future of Yoga in the west for Hindu Human Rights. Knowing yet another firstperson “State of the (Yoga) Union” address would essentially have zero value in light of the bigger issues in western Yoga world, I decided to base the project around a series of interviews with different people who had been involved in the discussion of how we got to where we are, i.e., this “Wild West, anything goes” concept of Yoga. Suffice it to say, as the conversations began, the project became infinitely more complex. Each one of the interviews highlighted something specific to framing the issues; each of the voices provided a myriad of “jumping off” points for further investigation and research. And with many other key collaborators besides the interviewees also involved, the depth and complexity of the topic expanded incredibly. Really, the “digging into” the topic could go on forever, but at a certain point the “getting it out” needs to take precedence in light of all that is at stake here. All that said, given the extensive subject matter and all of the nuance and information involved as well as all that has arisen throughout the process of interviews and related research the future of Yoga in the west article will be published in a series of three parts: Part I (as follows herein), “Adharmic Alliance: How the ivory tower helped Yoga Alliance “certify” Yoga as secular and detach it from its Hindu roots”: ● The first part frames the issues of Yoga in the west, and specifically the westernization of Yoga, around a case study of “Sedlock v.

DREKKANNA - THE D/3 CHART = DRESHKHAMSA Drekkana the D-3 chart = dreshkhamsha = a graphic representation of the placement of each radix graha into one of the 36 Drekkana BPHS Chapter 6: Shloka 7-8. Dreshkamsha: "One third of a Rashi is called Dreshkamsha. These are totally 36, counted from Mesha, repeating thrice at the rate of 12 per round. The 1st, 5th and the 9th Rashi from a Rashi are its three Dreshkhamsha and are, respectively, lorded by 1. Narada, 2. Agasthya 3. Durvasha." The meaning of the word DRESH – KANA DRESH mens seeing or visualizing objects which are apparent or hidden (obscure) in nature. KANA means corner or trine (Trikona). Therefore, Dreshkana represents the varga (division) where the signs, trine to each other, convey apparent as well as hidden personality and nature (swaroopa) of the native. Quotes From: David Frawley. the Astrology of the Seers, p. 186: "In this harmonic the first 1/3 or ten degrees 00° 00'-10° 00' of any sign ruled by itself. The middle 1/3,10° 00'-20° 00', is ruled by the subsequent sign of the same element. The last 1/3, 20° 00'-30° 00', is ruled by the final sign of the same element. For example, the first 1/3 of Sagittarius is in the harmonic third of Sagittarius, the second 1/3 in the harmonic third of Aries, and the last 1/3 in the harmonic third of Leo. Hence, if Saturn is located in a birth chart at 15° 20' Sagittarius, it would be in the harmonic third of Aries.

  • Re-Defining Tajaka Varshaphal Charts (Annual Solar Return Charts)
Om Gam Ganapataye Namah Om Rishibhyo Namah Om Sree Gurubhyo Namah Re-defining Tajaka Varshaphal Charts (Annual Solar Return Charts) P.V.R. Narasimha Rao June 15, 2014 (version 1) Warning : All copyrights are reserved with author. This article cannot be reproduced in any form in part or in full, without express permission from the author. Introduction Annual solar return charts based on Sun's return every year to his exact natal position are popular in Vedic and western astrology. Divisional charts of Tajaka varshaphal never worked with any consistency for this author with Lahiri ayanamsa. The discovery of Pushya-paksha ayanamsa and refinement of the definitions of some divisional charts based on an independent interpretation of Parasara and resulting experimentation, made divisional charts work reasonably well with Tithi Pravesha charts, but not with Tajaka varshaphal charts. When this author broke from tradition, went back to a teaching of Maharshi Parasara in “Vishnu Purana” on solar years and re-defined Tajaka varshaphal chart, divisional charts of Tajaka varshaphal started showing more consistent patterns. The new definition will be shared in this article with examples. Acknowledgment The basic idea of this research was inspired by a writing of Sri K.N. Rao, albeit in a different context. In his article “Jaimini Chara Dasa – My approach – 2” in “Journal of Astrology” (please see the internet link http://www.journalofastrology.com/article.php?article_id=317 ), he wrote in 2010 November that a particular pratyantardasa ended on Aug 17 th as per his calculations and on Aug 18 th as per “Jagannatha Hora” software.

  • Introduction to Indian Vedic Astrology
Introduction to Indian Vedic astrology Indian astrology is popularly referred to as Vedic astrology. This is not because it is there in the Vedas. There is no mention of astrology in the Vedas. However, it is one of the Vedangas, i.e., limb or branch of Vedas, and dates back to the Vedic period. Several of the Poojas and remedial measures prescribed in the Indian astrology are as per the Vedic system. Hence, it is called Vedic astrology. The Vedangas are six in number. They are: Siksha or phonetics, Kalpa or ritual, Vyakarana or grammar, Nirukta or etymology, Chhandas or metrics and Jyotishya or astronomy and astrology. These are mentioned in the Upanishads. It is impossible ascertain the exact time of origin of our astrology. Even the most famous historians differ wildly, from 1200 BC to 2500 BC while trying to fix our Vedic period. A lot of them, especially the westerners, still study India based on the Mahenjadaro and Harappan discoveries, which were discovered in the 1920’s!! Several archeological discoveries of recent times date our culture to 7500 BC, making it the ancient most civilization in the world. Our astrology has details of the horoscopes of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and many other ancient Indian kings and queens, recorded thousands of years ago. The Bhishma Parva and Udyoga Parva chapters of Mahabharata mention many astrological descriptions and omens just before the Mahabharata war. It also describes a period of draught with several planetary combinations. There is also a very clear reference about two eclipses, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse occurring, creating a rare 13 day lunar fortnight.

Hora, the Least Understood Divisional Chart By Shiv Kumar Chadha Hora is the divisional chart in Vedic Astrology, used for assessing the financial standing of the subject. The first half of odd signs and second half of the even signs, have the Hora of the Sun, whereas the second half of odd signs and first half of even signs have the Hora of the Moon. Currently Hora chart being made by the astrologers or computer programs, displays planets in Cancer and Leo signs only, leaving other signs blank. This is not correct way of making this chart and therefore does not help in interpreting it properly.
