Tyler is well known for his role as Michael Myers in the Rob Zombie Halloween films, Sabertooth in X-Men, and for his recent role starring in the blockbuster family film Playing with Fire. April Bogenschutz plays the role of Gwyn Prescott. April has a long career including leading roles in the film Raw Justice and the WB series Savannah Jesse Kove plays the role of Officer Trent Miller. TJ Jackson plays the challenging role of RJ Mercer and is a multi-time up and coming award nominated actor who is best known for his co-starring roles on American Soul and Doom Patrol. Bishop Harry plays the role of the obnoxious Carter Reese. Bring Me A Dream is his first leading role in a major film. Katie Monds plays the cowering-turned-heroic Bo Mason. Fresh out of college, Bring Me A Dream is Katie's first major film role after years in the theater. Kelly Lynn Reiter plays the role of Taylor Cole. Kelly is best known for her roles in Holy Terror, Nation's Fire and the TV series Deception in Dallas. Remakes, as Linda Hutcheon has noted, “are invariably adaptations because of changes in context” (170), and this in spite of the fact that the medium remains the same. What Robert Stam has said of film adaptations is equally true of remakes: “they become a barometer of the ideological trends circulating during the moment of production” because they “engage the discursive energies of their time” (45). Context includes the general historical, cultural, social, national and ideological context, of course, as well as the modes of production and aesthetic trends in the film and television industry. Studying remakes is, then, a productive way to both identify current trends and reconsider those of the past, as well as to assess the significance of a previous work into which the remake offers a new point of entry (Serceau 9), and this regardless of whether or not we deem the remake to be a “successful” film in itself. In this respect, remakes are especially relevant to film and television history and, more generally, to cultural history: they can teach us a lot about the history of production strategies, the evolution of genres, narrative, characterization and style, and of various representations (of an event, a situation, a group or a figure). In a recent article entitled “Zip, zero, Zeitgeist” [sic] posted on his blog (Aug 24, 2014), David Bordwell warns against the tendency of some journalists to see “mass entertainment” as “somehow reflect[ing] its society”: In sum, reflectionist criticism throws out loose and intuitive connections between film and society without offering concrete explanations that can be argued explicitly.

    SEÇÃO: ARTIGOS Aspectos educacionais do karate: discutindo suas representações no cinema1 Rafael Cava Mori2 ORCID: 0000-0001-6301-2795 Gilmar Araújo de Oliveira3 ORCID: 0000-0002-7617-6235 Resumo O karate é uma luta originária de Okinawa, ilha ao sul do Japão. Historicamente, atravessou três períodos: a partir do século XVII, como bujutsu, técnica clandestina de luta; depois, como budo, quando foi convertido em luta tradicional japonesa, em fins do século XIX, propugnando valores educacionais e identitários; e finalmente, como esporte de luta, quando foi associado a performance motora e competitividade, no século XX. Ao considerar o papel do karate como veiculador de valores de um Japão idealizado – japonesidade –, este trabalho analisa representações cinematográficas dessa luta. A análise focou nos aspectos educativos retratados nos filmes, a série estadunidense The karate kid e o japonês Kuro obi, sendo conduzida conforme três categorias: a relação entre teoria e prática; ruídos e conflitos entre professor e aluno; e formação do aluno como futuro professor. Os resultados revelam que as obras criticam a esportivização do karate, enfatizando a representação de aspectos educacionais associados aos períodos do bujutsu e, principalmente, do budo. Também, colaboram para reafirmar e atualizar a japonesidade, ao tratar os princípios do budo e sua transmissão educacional de forma idealizada, sem aludir a seu caráter moderno. Ainda, os filmes apresentam divergências em relação à proposta contemporânea de uma pedagogia das lutas, fundamentada na ciência da motricidade humana. Por outro lado, as produções cinematográficas contribuem para a área educacional na medida em que possibilitam discussões a respeito dos processos formativos e seus percalços, retratados de forma original, recorrendo aos conceitos de yin/ yang relacionados aos princípios zen -budistas do budo.
