FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 22, 2019 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF SECOND-ROUND BERTHS AT STAKE IN GAME 7 DOUBLEHEADER TUESDAY NEW YORK (April 22, 2019) -- Two Stanley Cup Playoff series will be decided in a Game 7 doubleheader Tuesday when the Boston Bruins play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m., ET, NBCSN, Sportsnet, CBC, TVAS), followed by the San Jose Sharks facing the Vegas Golden Knights (10 p.m., ET, NBCSN, Sportsnet, TVAS). The past two playoff series between the Bruins and Maple Leafs have culminated in unprecedented Game 7 drama, both occurring at TD Garden. In 2013, Boston became the first team in NHL history to overcome a three-goal, third-period deficit to win a Game 7 (Boston 5, Toronto 4 ,OT). In 2018, the Bruins became the first team in League history to overcome three deficits of at least one goal to win a Game 7 in regulation (Boston 7, Toronto 4). Five current Bruins appeared in both the 2013 and 2018 contests: goaltender Tuukka Rask, defenseman Zdeno Chara and forwards Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Krejci. Two Maple Leafs players have done so: defenseman Jake Gardiner and forward Nazem Kadri. Chara (0-4--4 in 12 GP) is set to tie an NHL record by playing in his 13th career Game 7, joining all-time co-leaders Patrick Roy and Scott Stevens. • Press Clips March 18, 2014 Sabres-Flames Preview Associated Press March 17, 2014
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips March 18, 2014 Sabres-Flames Preview Associated Press March 17, 2014 Jhonas Enroth will not join the Buffalo Sabres on their five-game road swing, and with backup Michal Neuvirth also injured, the league's worst team will likely begin its trip with a No. 1 goaltender who has 22 minutes of NHL game experience under his belt. Nathan Lieuwen will probably make his first career start Tuesday night when the Sabres take on the Calgary Flames. Enroth sustained a lower-body injury in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Montreal. ''He's going to get further evaluation and stay behind,'' coach Ted Nolan said Monday. ''Right now it looks at least a little bit better today than it did yesterday.'' After the Sabres (19-41-8) flew out of Buffalo on Monday, Enroth posted on his Twitter account a photo of his right leg in an immobilizing device and wrote, ''For the next couple weeks ... " Lieuwen stopped all 10 shots he faced in his NHL debut Sunday after being called up from AHL Rochester earlier in the day. Buffalo also called up Matt Hackett from Rochester on Monday to back up Lieuwen. Hackett, a former third-round draft pick, played 13 games with Minnesota from 2011-13 before the Sabres traded for him last April 3. Nolan said Neuvirth will travel with the Sabres, but his status for Tuesday is up in the air. Neuvirth has missed two games with a lower-body injury, but was able to work out on the ice Monday.

  • Plenty to Ponder Ahead of Deadline Cheveldayoff Has Options Before Trade Window Closes on Monday
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/jets-only-worry-about-the-next-game-not- trade-rumours-474509663.html Plenty to ponder ahead of deadline Cheveldayoff has options before trade window closes on Monday By: Mike McIntyre A blockbuster move? A depth piece or two? Nothing at all? Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff says all options are on the table heading into Monday’s NHL trade deadline — and plenty of intrigue surrounds what the local squad might do. The Jets resemble a Stanley Cup contender and have the prime opportunity they’ve been building toward for years. "I couldn’t tell you with a crystal ball what we’re going to be talking about Monday with respect to additions, or not, with our group," Cheveldayoff said Tuesday in a wide-ranging conversation with the Free Press. Cheveldayoff made it clear that while he’s willing to move draft picks and prospects to help his team win now, there are a few untouchables. While he wouldn’t identify them by name, one has to think young players such as Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic and 2017 first-round pick Kristian Vesalainen might be among them. "We have assets within this organization — whether they’re picks or prospects — and there’s going to be a threshold that will be determined as to whether we will use them or not," Cheveldayoff said. "There’s some assets within our organization that I will not use. If there’s the right fit, and the right deal, then certainly I’d be willing to do that.

  • Oilers Slip Past Canadiens
SPORTS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2015 Oilers slip past Canadiens EDMONTON: Leon Draisaitl’s second goal with 1:02 left broke a tie and the Edmonton Oilers scored four straight goals in a 4-3 victory over the league-leading Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. Draisaitl was called up earlier in the day from Bakersfield of the AHL and missed the morning skate. He played in 37 NHL games last season. Brandon Davidson and Benoit Pouliot also scored, and the Oilers erased a 3-0 first-period deficit to end a three-game skid. Brendan Gallagher, Torrey Mitchell and Alex Galchenyuk scored for Montreal. The Canadiens have lost two straight after starting the season with nine straight victories. Edmonton completed the comeback when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins fed it out front to Draisaitl for his second of the contest. HURRICANES 3, ISLANDERS 2 Ron Hainsey scored at 2:21 of overtime to lift Carolina over New York. Brock McGinn and Chris Terry scored in regulation to help Carolina win its second straight to cap a 4-3-0 road trip. Eddie Lack stopped 17 shots. Hainsey took a pass from Jordan Staal and slid the puck past Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss near the midpoint of the extra period for his second of the season. The Boston Bruins’ Use of Social Media to Engage Fans in Promotions Abstract The topic of my research paper is the Boston Bruins’ use of social media to engage fans in promotions. More specifically, my research question is how do professional hockey teams use social media sites, such as Twitter, to increase fan engagement with team promotions? This research is important because we learned more about how social media sites are utilized in a positive way and were able to see what it takes to make these social media sites successful at the professional sport level. Some findings that have already been conducted on this topic include the different types of promotions and involvement, fan motivation on social media sites, social media in professional hockey specifically, and NHL teams using social media sites.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 22, 2018 Janmark, Stars beat Sabres 7-1 to finish 3-0-1 trip AP Jonah Bronstein January 21, 2018 BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn caught one of his teammates reaching for an extra chicken wing in the locker room after Saturday’s game. “Easy,” Benn said. “We’re only on game 48.” The Stars continued their midseason push into playoff positioning by closing out a four-game road trip with a 7-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Mattias Janmark had two goals and an assist, Esa Lindell added a goal and two assists, Jamie Benn and Radek Faksa each had a goal and an assist, and Remi Elle also scored for the Stars, who return home after going 3-0-1 on the road. “It’s a battle every game and every day in this league,” said Benn, who extended his point streak to seven games. “It seems we’ve been playing pretty good hockey as of late and I think we are still only seventh in the conference.” The Stars regrouped from a 2-1 shootout loss in Columbus on Thursday night to match their season-high scoring total. “You want to be a team that can bounce back,” Janmark said. “I think all good teams do after losses. So it’s a good sign that we were able to.” John Klingberg, the NHL leader in defenseman scoring, tallied three assists and Jason Spezza had two. Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for Dallas. “This was a huge road trip for us with how the division is right now,” Klingberg said.
