What is a virtual Inspection?

A virtual inspection allows the inspector to remotely view the site using a controlled by the contractor/applicant saving time and money. Development Services is currently using free applications such as , Tango and Facetime to perform inspections.

You will need:

 Internet access  Device with webcam  Free account with Skype or Tango if Facetime is not available.

Begin the Inspection on the Street in Front of the Structure:  Pan the phone to the left then back right; Approach the structure to verify address.

Review HVAC Unit Installation Requirements: Inspection Set up:  Remove HVAC panel cover where conductors enter the unit.  From the HVAC unit label: identify the unit model number, minimum and maximum breaker size.  Review and verify conductors entering the unit for size, type and connection to unit.  Review and verify conduit connections from unit to HVAC disconnect.

HVAC Disconnect: Inspection Set up:  Remove disconnect blade and cover exposing conductors and connections.  Review and verify conductor size, type and connection supplying the unit disconnect.  Review and verify conductors are protected as they enter the disconnect (bushing or clamp).  Review and verify conduit connections to the disconnect, conduit type, secure and support requirements from disconnect to panel.

Condensate Drain and Disposal:  Review and verify drain material type and support to final area of disposal.  Review slope of drain .  Review and verify condensate disposal area (Is a French drain provided/required).

Service Panel: Inspection Set up:  Remove the dead front from the service panel or sub-panel serving the HVAC unit.  Identify and locate the circuit breaker serving the HVAC unit.  Verify conductor size, type, marking and connections within the panel.  Verify circuit breaker rating (must be within the range identified on the HVAC label).  Review and verify HVAC unit circuit breaker is permanently identified on the dead front.
