Now known as Historic Ballston Park, the 52 brick buildings which make up the community are situated in an area that is bound by N. 5th Street, N. Oxford Street, N. 2nd Street and N. Glebe Road and bisected by N. Pershing Drive. The multi-family apartment buildings were designed by Henry Wright in the Colonial Revival style and were built by Paramount Communities, Inc. between 1937 and 1938. The two-story brick buildings were constructed of brick and hollow tile. One three-story brick building was constructed to test the appeal of modem architecture. Each two-story building has decorative entrance surrounds, symmetrically paired windows and brick quoining. The site plan of the community, which incorporates open spaces and courtyards, is also a significant feature of the community. Generally, the community is in good condition but it is necessary for a major rehabilitation to be undertaken to extend the useful life of the buildings. A sympathetic rehabilitation has been planned so that the original architectural integrity of the buildings will continue to be kept intact. Originally, the land on which the Buckingham Historic District was built was a farm. About 100 acres of the eastwardly sloping landscape
