The project has a budget of over 2bn Euros, is 370km in length and the specification is for 3lanes dualcarriageway at the Northern and Western circumference of Greece which includes large bridges and tunnels and sloping earthworks in liquefied prompt areas. 39. A38 Saltash Tunnel (UK) - Authored a Highways Agency WS4 certification for the refurbishment of all earthworks involved in the refurbishment of the access cuttings and openings of the Saltash tunnel. The earthworks included among other slope engineering works the installation of a grid of rock bolts and reinforcing nets covering 5000m2.

As a geotechnical engineer and later senior geotechnical engineer, I was the geotechnical designer or lead designer managing multi-skilled teams in order to deliver designs with tight budgets and always strict deadlines while making sure that quality assurance procedures were followed in order to achieve state-of-art designs in different types of infrastructure projects including ports, terminals, bridges, highways, buildings, tunnels etc. Some of the prestigious projects involved were the Genova Harbour Crossing, Immingham HP terminal, Crossrail, Barcelona Port, Egnatia Highway Bridges, Puerto Caucedo Port, etc. He was the Business Development Manager for all Greek projects of High Point Rendel, Capita Symonds (Egnatia Odos, etc.) for 3 years responsible for over a billion euros worth bids.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer, High Point Rendel (Dec. 2003 – Oct. 2005)

1. New Beska Bridge, Novi Sad (Serbia) - Design and 2nd level checking of the pile group analyses of this important crossing of Danube river nearby Novi Sad in North Serbia.

2. Suybiah Causeway (Kuwait) - Concept design for the foundations of this 35km causeway that crosses the Kuwait Golf.

3. 3rd Karnaphuli River Bridge, Chittagong, Bay of Bengal (Bangladesh) - Tender design of the driven pile foundations for 10 piers and abutments for this 800m long RC bridge. The area has deep loose sediments with earthquakes that can reach over magnitude 8 at the Richter scale at distance of approximately 100Km. Liquefaction, buckling driveability were some of the constrains for this highly competitive tender design that we had to cater for in the piled group analyses. The design was capitalising experiences drawn from the Jamuna and Padma bridge designs in Bangladesh.

4. ERGOSE – Lianokladi-Domokos railway section (Greece) - Project manager for the tender bid of the independent checking of this high profile new double track line high speed railway section, which by 90% consists of tunnels, bridges, embankments and cuttings. ERGOSE is the solo public project management organisation responsible for the development and maintenance of the railway network of Greece. As a proposal manager I created and managed the submission of a 3 companies effort with consultants from 4 countries for these 1.35Billion Euros projects combined budgets that was aiming to provide the checking of detailed design of 16 balanced cantilever and launching bridges and 10 NATM or TBM tunnels.

5. OSE, Greek Railways (Greece) - Proposal manager for the projects concerning the design of the new western axis of railway in Greece. The proposals worth 85million Euros designing fees. Negotiations with the partners and subconsultants and hard preparation on the technical merits of the multinational team that was supported by international experts created great possibilities for winning some of these contracts.

6. Egnatia Odos - Bridge G7 Independent Check (GR). Responsible for the review of the foundations suitability for this 270m curved cantilevered 3span bridge. Independent check for the piers, abutments and slopes was carried out in this highly seismic area. He carried out full dynamic analyses of piled rafts and complex retaining structures including 12m embedded caissons in rockmass acting as the piers foundations.

10. Barcelona Port - Expert Witness claim (Spain). Responsible for undertaking all the geotechnical analysis for the settlements of the new seawall for the port of Barcelona in order to justify the possible damages occurred in the collapse of this notable structure.

11. Business development (Global) Produce proposals for strategic business development in several construction sectors in the global and UK market, liaison and develop business proposals for raisers and investment bankers, utilise contacts in Middle East for mutual cooperation, set out geotechnical business opportunities in the UK market.

12. Gale Common Ash Disposal Works (UK). Responsible for implementing the seepage and stability analyses for the 2003-2004 raising program of Lagoon E by using FE and limit equilibrium techniques. He carried out the assessment of the stability of a pit in Lagoon C that contains a HV pylon in order to safeguard the tower legs when raising the infill level in the pylon pit. Specifications of pneumatic and standpipe piezometers were prepared. At the end a technical design note with a CDM risk assessment was drafted.

13. CrossRail Line 1 (UK). As a secondment position within the Geotechnical Consulting Group he assisted the principal engineer to predict the short/long term settlement assessments due to the planned excavations for the new underground railway network in Central London. Responsible to the project manager for checking the final design of East Cliff stabilisation works, which consists of a retaining wall and two rows of piles connected by steel ties. The checking included confirmation of all the stability and structural calculations that were relating to the concept and detailing of the design.

16. Barcelona Port - Design review (Spain). Responsible for undertaking all the geotechnical review relating to the claims resulting from damage to the construction works of the New Entrance of the Port of Barcelona. Analytical checks concentrated to the geotechnical design of the foundation of the seawall caissons including bearing capacity calculations, settlement-consolidation analysis and stability analysis. Checked and reported all issues relevant to the geotechnical design of the Barcelona port new works.

17. Egnatia Odos - Bridges Independent Check (Greece). Responsible for the review of the suitability of the foundations and adequacy of the geotechnical report according to the Greek/German standards. Liaise with the structural engineers to provide geotechnical backing to their considerations. Calculations included predictions of settlements of abutments and piers, estimations on bearing, tensile and lateral capacities of the piled and non-piled foundations, assessment of the deformation modulus of the rockmass at static and dynamic conditions, calculations of dynamic earth pressures acting on the abutments, and sliding/overturning checking for the piled abutment. Part of the responsibilities was to provide the Final Check Report with the geotechnical engineering considerations. Interesting issues relating to the design checking of these several gorge bridges with different geometries, i.e. the twin G3 and G7 bridges, is that the checking was based on Greek/DIN/International standards and that the bridges are located at a highly earthquake hazard area.

18. Genoa Port Area Crossing (Italy). Member of the team for the preliminary design of the Genoa Harbour Crossing, with the particular task to design the cut-and-cover sections of the west approach. Responsible for the final design concept of the west approach of the port tunnel.

19. Lyme Regis Stabilisation works (UK). Involved as a designer in the slope stabilisation of Lyme Regis, Dorset finalising and detailing solutions of retaining structures and piling schemes. The design solutions among others included stability analyses, drainage works, the use of geotextiles, earthworks , the design of access steps, etc. Responsibilities included development of the CDM design risk assessment and of the detailed design drawings.

Contracted as a freelance geotechnical consultant with the business development unit and its geotechnical group in order to identify the protection margins of Thames Water storage reservoirs and assets in Thames Valley and Lee Valley, these totaled more than twenty. 1994 - 1996 GEOPLAN Ltd - Geotechnical & Environmental Engineering Consultants, 36 Skoufa Street, Athens, (GREECE) Job title/Position: ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST

Working under the direct command of the business owner and director of this SME consultancies (although this was one of the big 5 geo-consultants in Greece), as an Engineering Geologist: On a full-time and part- time basis I was involved in the design of two off-stream ponds, two earth dams, one tunnel and in the Athens Underground as a site geologist and geotechnical designer. The designs involved site investigation, laboratory testing arrangements, and reporting the construction specifications and geotechnical conclusions to the Ministry of Public Works or Agriculture and contractors. During these projects I supervised site investigation procedures alone, I co-ordinated laboratory testing, participated in construction boards and was responsible for the geotechnical reports. Progressively after a year I was given full responsibilities and I carried out two geotechnical investigations of the off-stream ponds up to the final points by myself with the direct supervision of the managing director. I used many geo-codes and relevant software, and I analysed or programmed subroutines in specialised geotechnical programs. The usual analyses tools were AutoCad, ArcInfo, Fortan 77 and Z-Soils finite element package. 1. Tsiknias dam, Lesvos island (Greece) – Project/site engineer for 4 months, with full managing responsibility to undertake the detailed site investigations and earth dam core excavations for this 32m height earthfill dam, that will produce an 3.5million cu.m. reservoir for agricultural/irrigation/civil water resources demands. 2. Tymphrystos railway tunnel (Greece) - Involved as an assistant civil engineer & engineering geologist in the design of a 1000m long railway tunnel at Fthiotis prefecture at Tymphrystos mountain, a famous referred project that set the tunneling scene in the Greek 90s technical construction world. Created reports on deformation surveying and remedial NATM measures. 3. Kymi dam, Evoia island (Greece) - Project/site engineer for 2 months, to undertake the detailed site investigations for this 29m height earthfill dam, that will produce an 2.2million cu.m. reservoir for agricultural/irrigation/civil water resources demands. 4.
