CLINICAL RESEARCH CENTRE, SARAWAK GENERAL HOSPITAL CRC SGH NEWSLETTER Issue # 20/ April 2013 Sibu Hospital Clinical Research Centre – from conception to toddler By: Dr. Toh Teck Hock (Head), Dr Wong Toh Mee (Deputy Head) , Ms Yap Ling (Research Officer) Welcome to 2013!! CLINICAL RESEARCH CENTRE, SARAWAK GENERAL HOSPITAL CRC SGH NEWSLETTER Issue # 20/ April 2013 Sibu Hospital Clinical Research Centre – from conception to toddler By: Dr. Toh Teck Hock (Head), Dr Wong Toh Mee (Deputy Head) , Ms Yap Ling (Research Officer) However, realizing the cost is such a burden, we decided to take up the challenge and organize our own GCP in Sibu. For the first GCP course in December 2011, 42 participants (33 from Sibu or nearby hospitals) attended it. In 2012, the demand increased, and we had to take 51 participants (having to reject quite a number of late comers). We also managed to train our own local researchers such as Dr. Wong Toh Mee and Dr Toh Teck Hock to become the lecturers and we hope to grow more. There will be another GCP Course conducted by Sibu CRC in September this year. Ever since the establishment of CRC Sibu, we have been part of the CRC National Network. We know more people in the field by attending various CRC meetings and workshops, NCCR and other activities organised by the industry. This has helped to promote Sibu CRC on the national and international platform. We believe CRC Sibu, with the research culture that have been seeded by the senior clinicians even before the birth of CRC Sibu, and the continuous effort after the birth, will ensure the growth and development of CRC Sibu, becoming a better centre for CR, and hopefully one day be recognized as a Centre of Excellence for CR in Malaysia. The Centre will amplify the work done by some of the established clinicians in Sibu, to ensure better and more quality research will be produced, for the benefits of patient care in the region.
