Change of Command for USS Nimitz (CVA-68) In December 2011, the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz made Naval Station Everett its home port, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln. On the morning of March 29, a “sea of brass” swept onto the USS Nimitz for a change of command ceremony in port. Captain Paul Monger, captain of the Nimitz for three years relinquished command of the big ship to his successor, Captain Jeff Ruth, formerly Executive Officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln. Over a thousand of the crew attended in dress uniform, and a host of dignitaries from the region were in attendance. The ceremony was uplifted by the Band and the impressive decoration of flags from the many states. The ship’s new battle banner (pictured below left middle) was designed by Nimitz communications specialist Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Wolfe.
