Great book for fans of the video game series, and this particular game that its based on. It gives more details about why Athena wanted Kratos to kill Ares and explains that she persuaded the other gods (and how) into helping Kratos by giving him powers or weapons. She did not persuade Zeus, who knew what Athena was doing, but he helped Kratos (as both himself and the gravedigger) regardless as he wanted Kratos to become the God of War. Some things are omitted. For example, in the game, he meets Hades who gives him the Army of Hades magic power. Thats omitted. And in the game, Athena gives Kratos the Blades of Athena after he takes the throne as the new God of War. That is also omitted. He instead receives Blade in the beginning of the second book. , who wasnt in the game, appears in the book and informs Athena about various things relating to Kratos, such as when Kratos tried to commit suicide. For those who have never played the games, or this particular game that its based on, its still a good and fun book.
