AURIGNY LAUNCHES LONDON CITY TO SERVICE

Aurigny’s new service between London City and Guernsey will start on Monday 8 September.

The first flight out of London City will depart at 0915 with the last return from Guernsey departing at 1700. Fares will start from £89 each way and can be booked from today on Aurigny.com.

‘As a world-renowned international finance centre, Guernsey relies heavily on its links with London both for business opportunities and to link up with colleagues on island or in the City,’ said Aurigny CEO, .

‘By adding two flights each way each week day to and from London City, combined with our London Gatwick and London Stansted services, we believe we have a very attractive offering for business commuters travelling in each direction.

‘London City also offers an excellent range of onward connections to financial centres across Europe as well as the opportunity to connect to BA’s New York service. Alongside these connections, London City offers a faster service for passengers with a short check in (door to lounge) of around 20 minutes, and a shorter arrival (tarmac to train) of around 15 minutes.’

Aurigny will be wet leasing a Fokker 50 to operate on this route for the first four to eight weeks whilst it sources an additional ATR aircraft to join its fleet for the long term.

Aurigny was founded by Sir Derrick Bailey in 1968 making it one of the oldest in the world and is solely owned by the government of Guernsey. It provides a service between Guernsey and Jersey, Guernsey and and to important UK hubs such as London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, East Midlands, Bristol, and Southampton. Aurigny also offers a service from Guernsey to Dinard. Aurigny became the first commercial operator of the Britten-Norman Trislander in July 1971 and still operates these aircraft today although it is planned that Dornier aircraft will replace them later this year. To protect the vital lifeline route the was acquired by the States of Guernsey (Guernsey’s government) in 2003, after announced that it was to cease flying between London Gatwick and Guernsey. On 21 June 2007, Aurigny obtained permission from the States of Guernsey, to raise a private loan to purchase two new ATR 72-500 aircraft, which entered service in March 2009. Aurigny celebrated 40 years in operation in 2008. In December 2013 Aurigny was voted the Best Short Haul Airline in an annual reader’s survey carried out by Which? magazine the influential consumer publication. The airline achieved an impressive customer score of 87% and held off the challenge from 21 larger and more famous carriers such as Swiss, British Airways, Easyjet, and Ryanair to be awarded this prestigious accolade. The airline also achieved four stars for its boarding process, legroom and seat comfort, punctuality of flight as well as aircraft cleanliness and temperature. After Flybe announced its withdrawal from the route by March 2014, Aurigny ordered the Embraer 195 to serve its Gatwick route. The aircraft entered the service in July 2014.

London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Catering for around 3.4 million passengers (63% travelling on business, and 61% inbound) and 70,000 movements annually, in 2013 LCY celebrated 26 years of operation. LCY offers a unique rapid transit proposition – a short check in (door to lounge) of around 20 minutes, and a shorter arrival (tarmac to train) of around 15 minutes. 10 airlines fly out of LCY, serving over 40 mainly European destinations, eight of which were new for 2013, 7 will be new in 2014. The airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum – carrying 6 million passengers - which it intends to do by 2023.
