I've been wanting to All- New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday X-Men since forever, and I can't seem to remember who recommended this to me. It was either Jeff or some other non-goodreads friend of mine. I'm really glad he recommended it, because this was a good read. Basically Beast wanted to change things for the better and pulled the original X-Men from the past to try and influence the current All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday. Would it work out like he wanted to? Read and find out. What I didn't like or really wanted to happen was to read more of Magneto and . I know Wolverine is not even on the cover, but he's basically X-Men for me. I remember All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday a lot of single issues of the original X-Men run when I was a child, but I can't remember anything from them at all aside from Wolverine and Cyclops were both my favorites. Aside from that though, I had no problems with this graphic novel. The artwork was really likable and the plot was good too. Really good considering this is my first X-Men read in years. Btw if you hate cliffhangers then you'll probably hate this shit for quite a while. I need to read volume 2 asap. Highly recommended. That sounds silly, but when I realized that this one was about bringing the 'original' X-Men from the past into the future, I was pretty sure I would not love this title. And the cover looks lame. In fact, I thought I had accidentally picked up one of the books that are marketed toward kids. Yes, I've done that before So Scott has gone off the chain, and the remaining the X-Men can't agree on how to handle him. If they openly fight him, they might start a 3. If they openly fight All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday, they might start a Mutant All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday War, and if they do nothing, then everything Charles worked for goes down the drain. Beast is undergoing yet another mutant transformation thingand he knows that this one is going to kill him. He's kept it to himself, but the thought of leaving this mess when dies is weighing heavily one him. Then Bobby says something along the lines of, If the old Scott could only see himself now It triggers a crazy idea to start rattling around in Beast's head. He decides maybe a Hail Mary play is their only chance. So he goes back in time and pulls the young Scott, Jean, All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday, Angel, and himself out of their timeline, and into his, in the high hopes that somehow it will make a difference. I thought it would be goofy, but it turned out to be pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to what's coming next in this title! View all 3 comments. Following the vs. X-Men , Cyclops has gone a little kooky. The current X-Men fear that directly confronting him could kick off a mutant so Hank McCoy decides that the best way to stop Cyclops is to let the young Scott Summers get a look at what he becomes. Hank takes a jaunt into the past where he Sometimes it seems like the X-Men do more time traveling than Doctor Who. Hank takes a jaunt into the past where he recruits the original team of X-Men, including his own younger non-furry self, to come back to the future. However, I gotta admit that Bendis did a very good job with this. Instead, he sets up a lot of intriguing things with the young X-Men being pretty much horrified at the way things have turned out All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday all of them. They get around this for now with the explanation that when they return to the All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday that Professor X will certainly read their minds, know what happened, and then wipe the memories from them. But no one seems concerned about Xavier knowing the future after that? This is a point that should come up more considering that Wolverine very vocally considers the idea that killing young Scott would save them all a lot of grief later. But I was able to set that aside for the more intriguing questions that Bendis and company are playing with here, the ideas of what someone would think of themselves and their fate if they could see into the future as well as considering what warnings a person might offer to a younger version of themselves. Hank McCoy is no different except he thinks bigger. After a conversation with Iceman, Beast decides to bring the original X-Men go the future to stop Cyclops from traveling his radical path. I expected to hate All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday X-Men because the overuse of time travel makes me crazy, but this first volume was really well done. Beast came up with a solid plan of using the original X-Men's presence to stop Cyclops from causing more harm than good. I also liked this volume because it didn't revolve around the original All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday. A lot of attention was being paid to Cyclops revolution along with Beast's condition. The X-Men comics were my favorites when I was younger, and I wanted to jump back into reading them with a more contemporary story. The X-Men have been around for a while, embedded in our zeitgeist with many different iterations, and sometimes it feels like they've told every story they could. Not only that but one big critique that many people have is that the universe has gotten too big, with too many characters, All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday it can get a bit overwhelming. Mixing the old X-Men with the new X-Men? A one-off that might be fun, might be a nice trip down memory lane, but Bendis is going way beyond any expectations I had. So, unable to figure things All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday on his own, he hops a and Mr. Fantastic time cube and goes back in time to get a young Scott Summers to talk All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday his future self, who has gone off the deep end. As it turns out, present-day Scott Cyclops killed Professor X at some point what? Deep breath. Because with all of that in play, things just get weirder. But somehow Bendis pulls it all off because I kept up with all the old history while he made new history with what I thought was history. The book is really not as confusing as that last sentence sounds. And fun. And exciting. And purely addictive. A couple times. Angel seems lost and more innocent than he ever has. The Hank problem gets worked out, but Bendis takes advantage of the All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday communication to zip readers through many of the Marvel Girl costumes that Jean wore in the past, and to touch on all the emotional things that made the original run on the X- Men so good. Not so All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday ago, it was touch and go for the X-Men. Their adventures in the pages of were hardly making a dent in the minds of the average reader. Whatever the reason, the X-Men series stopped presenting big, grabby ideas. Even when talented writers were assigned to guide the mutants, the stories felt like empty nostalgia exercises filled with half-hearted quips and small-scale threats. Nothing was catching on. Reading them now is like falling in love after years of luckless dating. But when they are ready, what a conversation there is to be had. But that kind of All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday with form and language is emblematic of what Hickman does best. However, it took him 12 years of professional comics writing to get around to writing them. He started his comics career with strange, high-concept indie titles at Image Comics, then got a bump up to Marvel a decade ago to write the series Secret Warriors and . The latter of those two titles was what made him a star, and it did so abruptly. His time with the FF — the first superheroes of the of Comics back in the s — was a joyous and intriguing one from the very beginning. Fans and critics devoured it. He wrote a series called S. He reinvigorated the ailing experiment. He was assigned to the tales of the Avengers and took them to the ends of time and space. It all culminated in one of the best crossovers in history, the jaw-droppingly ambitious Secret Wars. And then, it seemed, his time with the superheroes was over. He left Marvel All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday and dedicated All-New X- Men: Here Comes Yesterday efforts to his various creator-owned Image titles, seemingly content to tend his own garden and get weirder and weirder with characters he created and owned, alongside his artist collaborators. Then, earlier this year, there were whispers within the comics rumor mill: All-New X-Men: Here Comes Yesterday was coming back. However, that film series proved to be their undoing. Owing to various machinations not worth getting into here, 20th Century Fox owned the movie rights to the X-Men, and when Marvel started making its own movies with the characters whose rights it still retained circa the ones in the Marvel Cinematic Universethe company had an incentive to promote the Avengers characters more than the mutants. Finally, in late July of this year, House of X No. It was an immediate sensation. There have only been a few subsequent issues of the run — the House of X No. The basic setup is as follows: The X-Men, led by mutant telepathic genius Charles Xavier, have decided to form their own sovereign state on the island of Krakoa, a living geographic entity that has its own mutant powers and has been part of the X-Men for a long while. This turn of events upsets the balance of global politics and , and, although the mutants seem to have created a self-governed , we have swiftly been shown, through time-jumps in subsequent issues, that everything is destined to go horribly wrong. Silva, colorist Marte Gracia, letterer Clayton Cowles, and designer Tom Muller have turned them all on their heads and crafted something that feels new. Most important, there is a ton of stuff going on about the vital importance and mortal danger of a threatened minority group seeking self-determination and liberation. These are all questions that feel vitally necessary in our present troubled age. Hickman has both found the Zeitgeist and seems to be altering it at the same time. Already a subscriber?
