Canisius Position Description External Affairs - Student/Campus Engagement Graduate Assistant

Canisius College, a Jesuit college in Buffalo, New York, invites applications for the position of external affairs graduate assistant. This is a 10-month position that can be renewed for a second year. Canisius sponsors 20 NCAA Division I athletic teams, which compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), with the exception of ice hockey, which competes in the Atlantic Hockey Association.

The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, enthusiasm and the long-term goal of working in the collegiate/professional sports. The responsibilities of this position will be focused within the external affairs department, with an emphasis on student/campus engagement. The student/campus engagement duties will consist of developing and implementing initiatives aimed at increasing student attendance and engagement at athletic events, specifically for men’s and women’s basketball and hockey, while working closely with Student Affairs and C-Block, the school’s official student support group. The successful candidate will serve as the athletic department liaison and advisor for C-Block, while also overseeing and assisting with home game production efforts as it pertains to the College’s cheer, dance, pep-band and mascot program.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and have work experience in a related field. The position requires strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills. This position also requires strong attention to detail, and the successful candidate will need to be able to work with specific deadlines. The ability to use Adobe Creative Suite programs and social media is highly preferred. This position requires extensive hours, including nights, weekends and some holidays.
