Il Signore preparò prima lo spazio affinché il pensiero divenisse l’essenza, per riempirlo del pensiero Creativo e Vitale, sopra il buio, sopra le tenebre il Signore, il Creatore del tutto. Il Grande Costruttore, l’Eterno, la Luce, il Pensiero, la Vita possente. Tutta il buio e il nulla doveva essere riempito dell’alito di vita, affinché crescesse nella bellezza e nello spirito della luce eterna, la sua creazione. Che contemplasse ammirando con lui le Stelle, la Materia, la Vita, che nell’Universo si formava continuamente e che terminando rinasceva, in un Eterno Ciclo Creativo, la vita che muta e si rigenera. Nel poter ringraziare il suo Vero Padre Eterno, in cui Egli porre un briciolo di Luce Eterna, una parte di Eternità, nell’uomo. Fu così che decise dopo profondo pensiero di porre altra vita. In contrast to models of cultural and political development imported from the West during the Meiji Restoration and extended during the Showa and Taisho eras, and the strong orientation toward centralized vertical hierarchy that in Japanese culture and governance of that period, Minakata offers an understanding in terms of dispersed non-linear networks. As botanist, folklorist, and environmental activist, Minakata refused engagement with academic and governmental institutions, conducting his life and work in the remote Kii Peninsuala. In doing so, he engaged with a variety of significant horizontal networks: elite aristocratic networks, demotic press networks, ascent pan-Asian political networks, domestic folkloric and literary networks, and international intellectual networks.

Some circles may be large and some small, but their ‘circleness’,their perfect roundness, is immediately evident. Mathematicians say that all circles are similar. Before dismissing this as an utterly trivial observation, we note by way of contrast that not all triangles have the same shape, nor all rectangles, nor all people. We can easily imag- ine tall narrow rectangles or tall narrow people, but a tall narrow circle is not a circle at all.
