Filmon Networks Launches Battle Rap Channel with Street Rapper Lush One's Fresh FilmOn Networks launches Battle Rap channel with street rapper Lush One’s Fresh Coast Media Group The world’s leading online television provider joins with the man who rekindled interest in hip hop tradition to produce original content and pay-per-view events for a 24/7 television channel Beverly Hills, CA (August 18, 2014) Promising to do for battle rap what the UFC did for MMA, a newly announced partnership between FilmOn Networks and Fresh Coast Media Group will be raw, visceral, and dedicated to building a massive audience for what has been an incredibly creative, but underground, part of the hip hop scene until now. Fresh Coast Media Group, the company led by rapper Lush One, has joined with Greek billionaire Alki David’s Beverly Hills based company FilmOn Networks to produce content, pay-per-view events and high stakes challenges around the newly reborn genre of battle rapping—one of hip hop’s most revered traditions. The content will use FilmOn’s Battlecam platform to enable live interaction with fans, and will be streamed over the Internet on FilmOn.com and broadcast via FilmOn’s over the air channels in the U.S. and the U.K. “There’s nothing grittier or more real than battle rapping---it’s how all of hip hop began on the streets really, “ says David. “The stuff that’s out there now is for lightweights. MTV’s TotalSlaughter allows Viacom to neuter Eminem and has no street cred. It’s a joke, and has nothing on the raw experience we’ll deliver with Lush One’s crew and an uncensored forum for the top talents in the genre.” “This partnership allows us to take everything to a greater level of professionalism and to have deeper pockets behind the budgets and everything,” says Lush One, the rapper and entrepreneur who has led the creation of a distinct brand of West Coast independent hip hop that’s synonymous with his company Fresh Coast Media. “It’s just on a higher level. Our artists battle against the mainstream music industry in the same way Alki has the entertainment industry. They’re renegades for truth and innovation.” He adds: “This is the time. It’s going down right now.” The first pay-per-view event will air on FilmOn Networks’ new Ether TV platform in early December 2015. “Our events will honor the epic face offs from the golden age of hip hop,” says Alki David. “And future generations will be reciting the names of the winners of our battles. No holds barred. No weak tea watered down by a 90-year old Chairman of the Board with a catheter, holding Eminem's hand and deciding what gets said or not." Rappers who will appear on Battle Rap include Dizaster (arguably the biggest in the genre), Daylyt (also huge), Cali Smoov (the hot up and comer who will be seen soon in the feature film on NWA), Laylaw (who wrote Tupac Shakur’s last songs), Lil Eazy (son of Eazy-E). In addition to Lush One, other artists who rose to prominence with Fresh Coast who will appear include: Conceited (star of MTV’s Wild ‘n Out with Nick Cannon), Dumbfoundhead (the Korean-American rap star with huge YouTube following), 360 (the multi-platinum artist who is the biggest rapper in Australia), Shotty Horroh (who is working with legendary EDM producer Deadmau5 of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation), and Hollow Da Don, Murda Mook, Illmaculate and many others who have proved themselves on the streets and at Fresh Coast’s live events, inlcuding on its earlier productions with the site King of the Dot. Co-hosts of past Fresh Coast shows have included Drake (who is a huge supporter), Wu-Tang Clan, and many more. NBA stars and other celebrities will make guest appearances as well. BattleRap joins FilmOn.com’s offering of over 600 linear TV channels and 50,000 VoDs which reach 40 million unique monthly users worldwide. Outspoken CEO Alki David has created entertainment events featuring boxing, MMA stars, Jackass-like stunts, extreme reality television and major pop music stars. He is also a pioneer in the field of Social TV with BattleCam.com being used by a devoted audience of millions of users. FilmOn recently announced a co-production deal with Relativity that will produce a major feature film, Bob Thunder: YouTube Assassin, which depicts top YouTube stars and top BattleCam stars. It has not been previously submitted, in part or whole, to any university or institution for any degree, diploma, or other qualification. Signed:_________________________________________________________ Date:______5th June 2018 ________________________________________ Dave Hook BA PGCert FHEA Edinburgh i Abstract The published works that form the basis of this PhD are a selection of hip-hop songs written over a period of six years between 2010 and 2015. The lyrics for these pieces are all written by the author and performed with hip-hop group Stanley Odd. The songs have been recorded and commercially released by a number of independent record labels (Circular Records, Handsome Tramp Records and A Modern Way Recordings) with worldwide digital distribution licensed to Fine Tunes, and physical sales through Proper Music Distribution. Considering the poetics of Scottish hip-hop, the accompanying critical reflection is an autoethnographic study, focused on rap lyricism, identity and performance. The significance of the writing lies in how the pieces collectively explore notions of identity, ‘outsiderdom’, politics and society in a Scottish context. Further to this, the pieces are noteworthy in their interpretation of US hip-hop frameworks and structures, adapted and reworked through Scottish culture, dialect and perspective.

Some artists may glorify that, but other artists either decry it or offer it as a tragic reality. In hip-hop trends build off of music and music builds off of trends in a cyclical manner.

For Now Raquel Doering I. INTRODUCTION On December 19, 2014, the FCC released a notice of proposed rule making (NPRM), which tentatively concluded to define online video program distributors providing linear streams of programming as multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs) under the Communications Act.1 The FCC claims the change will insure that MVPDs have nondiscriminatory access to programming.2 However, the new definition does not offer MVDPs eligibility for Section 111 compulsory licenses.3 Section 111 compulsory licenses are tools online video providers have been battling for in the courtroom.4 The 1976 Copyright Act adopted the Section 111 compulsory licenses for cable systems.5 In 2012, the Second Circuit’s ivi II decision held that Internet retransmission services did not constitute cable systems under Section 111 and therefore, were not entitled to Section 111 compulsory licenses.6 In Fox TV Stations, Inc. v. Aereokiller (more commonly known as Fox v. FilmOn), decided on July16, 2015, Judge Wu of United States District Court for the Central District of California interpreted Section 111 as allowing FilmOn, an online streaming service, to 1 Robyn Polashuk, Inside FCC Proposal To Regulate Online Video Distributors, LAW360 (Sept.

Writing to Transgress: Sharing Stories, Claiming Space, and Finding Community by Emily Pohl-Weary A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Leadership, Higher and Adult Education Ontario Institute for Studies in Education University of Toronto © Copyright by Emily Pohl-Weary 2018 ii Writing to Transgress: Sharing Stories, Claiming Space, and Finding Community Emily Pohl-Weary Doctor of Philosophy Leadership, Higher and Adult Education Ontario Institute for Studies in Education University of Toronto 2018 Abstract My research has shown that community-based creative writing groups can be safer spaces for people who are under-represented in the English literary canon to craft and share their stories, poems, and other genres of writing. They can also put the act of cultural production into the hands of participants, redefine the notion of great literature, and provide a counterpoint to institutional learning. These groups are potential spaces for learning how to relate to one another with respect while acknowledging our own privileges, which can ultimately transform hegemonic social relations that exclude and oppress rather than connect and build support. Using iii critical arts-based inquiry and program evaluation methods, I employ a reflexive technique to investigate the benefits of a single group for youth, Toronto Street Writers (TSW), which I facilitated for six years in the neighbourhood where I grew up. TSW is positioned within a range of literacy and community writing groups across North America, transgressive and anti- oppressive theories around creative writing pedagogy are summarized, and interviews with former participants and staff of TSW are analyzed for insights into how to facilitate sustainable community-based creative writing groups that genuinely benefit members.
