Olaf Swantee said: "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Richard for his many years of contribution firstly to France Telecom, secondly in his period with T-Mobile prior to our merger, and finally for the last year with Everything Everywhere. Richard’s knowledge and expertise have been invaluable. He has played a major role in the successful establishment of the Everything Everywhere Joint Venture, and in particular has been instrumental in helping us achieve the significant synergies (some £200m) realised to date. We wish him success in whatever venture he pursues in the future." Richard Moat said: "I am very proud to have been part of the creation of one of the largest joint ventures in UK corporate history, and wish Olaf and his team every success in its continuing development." Andrew Ralston Formerly Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Ralston has decided to step down from his role as Chief Commercial Officer of Everything Everywhere. Andrew joined Orange with Tom Alexander over three years ago and has played a pivotal role in driving forward the commercial growth of Orange and latterly Everything Everywhere. Olaf Swantee said: "I am particularly sorry to be saying goodbye to Andrew at this time. He should be proud of his achievements over the last three years. He has been instrumental in delivering the strong commercial results we recently announced for the first half of 2011, a time when both Orange and T-Mobile reported industry-leading churn levels and strong growth levels in the PAYM business. I would personally like to thank Andrew for his strong commitment to the business over this period. I have enjoyed working with him and would like to thank him and wish him every success in the future." Andrew Ralston said: "It's been an exhilarating journey and I'm proud to have played a key part of it. I have had the privilege of working with some great people over my time at Orange and latterly Everything Everywhere, and I wish Olaf and his new team great success in its continuation.” Nicolas Ott Formerly Vice President of Strategy, Regulation and Planning Nicolas Ott has decided to pursue other professional opportunities. We thank him for his contribution in helping lead the Everything Everywhere Joint Venture, its subsequent integration and the evolution of its strategy. Nicolas also led our preparation for Ofcom's spectrum auction scheduled for next year. Olaf Swantee said: "Since Nicolas joined Orange UK and was a part of Everything Everywhere's launch last year, he has played a unique role in beginning to transform our business model to a value and mobile data centric one, helping us to adapt to the internet world. I wish Nicolas the very best for his future endeavours." Nicolas Ott joined Orange UK three years ago, after having worked previously for France Telecom where he was "chef de cabinet" for France Telecom Group's Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that, Nicolas was a Finance Director in several telecommunication companies. Linda Kennedy Formerly Chief Change Officer Linda Kennedy will be leaving the business with effect from 31 August, but has agreed to return as a consultant throughout the rest of the year in order to ensure a smooth transition for the organisation. Olaf Swantee said: "I'd like to thank Linda for her key contribution to Everything Everywhere, especially during the formation of the Joint Venture. I've asked Linda to remain with Everything Everywhere until the end of December on a consultancy basis, to ensure a smooth transition, which I am pleased to say she has agreed to." Not to be released until: August 6, 2009, 10:00 a.m. / Start statement René Obermann – Check against delivery – Statement delivered at the press conference on Deutsche Telekom’s first half-year results 2009 August 6, 2009 in Bonn René Obermann Chairman of the Board of Management Deutsche Telekom AG Ladies and Gentlemen, Nice to have you with us. You will see the figures in a moment. They show that our business has stabi- lized despite the economic crisis. We have responded decisively to the nega- tive trend of the first quarter. This approach will continue to bear fruit in the second half of the year. Some positive effects can be seen even now. This shows we are moving in the right direction. First of all, I would like to present the key results of the second quarter: - 2 - • We increased Group revenue and Group EBITDA substantially. Thanks especially to the consolidation of OTE, revenue increased by 7.4 percent and EBITDA by 8.4 percent year-on-year. • Our adjusted net profit of EUR 0.8 billion was almost 20 percent higher than the figure for the same period last year. • The measures initiated in April to safeguard earnings are beginning to take effect. • Free cash flow in the second quarter came in at EUR 1.4 billion, up from EUR 0.4 billion in the first quarter, and will rise significantly again in the second half of the year. • In the United Kingdom, the United States, and Poland – in other words, the markets in which we have seen a need for action – we have already improved our margins, in some cases substantially, compared with the first quarter.
